Reboot- Mouse Costume

A few weeks ago I was approached by a gentleman at my church. He explained to me that his daughter had this elaborate costume she needed to finish by August for a convention in Vancouver Canada. They had been having trouble with the costume and were looking for any advice. I gave him my email address and later that night received an email from his daughter. Since then we’ve regularly to work on this costume.

The character’s name is Mouse, from the first CGI animated TV show, Reboot. When I first met with her she was planning to use two Katana swords instead of one katana and a tanto, which is what the character has in all of the reference photos I was given. I told her I could easily turn one of the katanas into a tanto, which she agreed to allow me to do. The hilts and hand guards will need a lot of work (and forgive me for not knowing the proper Japanese terminology), but they’re on their way to a great looking prop! I've already cut out a new hand guard for the tanto, I just need to add the tear drops to it.

I then took measurements to begin creating the armor. Today I have completed about 90% of the belt, which I sculpted from clay and will make a mold of using Smooth-On Mold Max Stroke. From there I will cast it using a flexible resin from Smooth-On.

Now for some pictures, more updates coming soon!

Awesome! I was watching the show the other day and thought it would be cool to make her arm guards with fiberglass and leather. Looking forward to your updates.

Looks like it's coming along nicely.
What are you thinking to do to make her hair appear to glow? Wig with reflective road paint applied?

Very awesome indeed.
It's kinda nice seeing some reboot threads pop up. I've always liked mouse and her...attitude... Favorite line has to be at Bob and Dots wedding. "This dress doesn't come with a katana!"
For the hair, maybe embed some fiber optic strands to make it appear it's glowing.
Looking forward to seeing some progress!

Haha, awesome costume idea! I always wanted to dress up as Bob lol. Can't wait to see it finished! :D

BTW, awesome Tom Servo. Hope you finish that too! XD

Thanks for all of the comments! The hair is going to be tricky. She had someone else already make a wig for her, but she is very dissatisfied with the way it came out. We're going to try to make one from foam that looks like Mouse's hair on the show. At this late in the game we won't have time for fiber optics unless someone knows of a cheap & easy source. We're messing with some glow paints.

BTW, awesome Tom Servo. Hope you finish that too! XD

Me too! We are trying to use all original parts. Right now we just need to trace down that dang engine block, which is near impossible. Might have a lead on a resin one used in the show though *crosses fingers*

Have you thought about using crinkled, orange-colored mylar glued over upholstery foam for the hair? I would think it could give an interesting real-world interpretation of her hair (which can only exist in the computer).

...Just a thought.

What about EL wire? If you get enough of the smallest gauge you can buy in orange you might be able to make hair out of it. It could be pricey, but it would look damn cool.

Well we finished it today, but I can't show you guys the full costume until after her convention (her request). Here is a teaser.

Great show and I'm glad to actually see it as a costume looks great and the shinny material adds alot of that Digital 3D look the show had, good choice.

Looks awesome! One recommendation I'd make though is to beef up the leather gear a bit. If you'd like my help with that, shoot me a PM, I'll give you a good deal.

That's a great looking costume. First the Glitch thread and now this. And then the "reboot" of Reboot (is that ever coming out?). Loving it all!

It would be great to see another season of ReBoot (NOT a reboot, haha), but unfortunately Tony Jay died a while back and it just wouldn't be right without him, considering how they ended season 4.
