A few weeks ago I was approached by a gentleman at my church. He explained to me that his daughter had this elaborate costume she needed to finish by August for a convention in Vancouver Canada. They had been having trouble with the costume and were looking for any advice. I gave him my email address and later that night received an email from his daughter. Since then we’ve regularly to work on this costume.
The character’s name is Mouse, from the first CGI animated TV show, Reboot. When I first met with her she was planning to use two Katana swords instead of one katana and a tanto, which is what the character has in all of the reference photos I was given. I told her I could easily turn one of the katanas into a tanto, which she agreed to allow me to do. The hilts and hand guards will need a lot of work (and forgive me for not knowing the proper Japanese terminology), but they’re on their way to a great looking prop! I've already cut out a new hand guard for the tanto, I just need to add the tear drops to it.
I then took measurements to begin creating the armor. Today I have completed about 90% of the belt, which I sculpted from clay and will make a mold of using Smooth-On Mold Max Stroke. From there I will cast it using a flexible resin from Smooth-On.
Now for some pictures, more updates coming soon!
