Reasons to never buy a disc based game system when it first comes out

it's a business decision, no doubt.

You don't look at the hard core guys. You look at the average buyer. If 70ish percent of your target market is going to be those who only have a few a games, you don't put a 3TB drive in the box.

say the average game is 20GB (i'm betting less). That 5 games to 100GB * 5 to get you 500 or, 25 games. I venture most owners don't have that many games installed. Hardcore guys may want to play any of 20+ games on a given day, but not your average owner. Where that could be a much more legit issue, though, is the XB1 - if it's using one drive for games and DVR - 500 can get eaten pretty quickly. Even by your average to less than average user. If you have a DVR - you will use it if it's hooked up.

I'd actually heard you couldn't update either drive without voiding warranties. Hopefully those ports allow for external drives though i've not heard that either. I'd heard the opposite. Though it's very easy for either company to implement it down the road. Very easy.

If i ever need another BR players, i'll probably get one of these things. Which depends on which has the better BR player. Don't know they've done that test yet.

Never understood people wanting to be 'the first' to get these things. Between bugs and price gouging it's just not really worth it. At least they're both cheaper than the last gen at release :)

I think the "first to get" thing is something that some people just get into with tech stuff. Personally, I view early adopters as necessary, but I learned the hard way not to adopt tech early. the early adopters get all kinds of problems, and I don't personally see the upside once you get past about 5 minutes worth of bragging rights.

I don't begrudge folks their purchases, of course. Hey, it's their nickel. But I've been burned by early purchases before and it's really frustrating when it happens.

Sadly the game industry keeps ignoring the hardcore gamers even though we built the industry by supporting them the most. It's why you keep seeing franchises watered down from what they used to be. They'll figure it out when the market's flooded with nothing but crap games again and the entire industry crashes like it did in 1983/84.

Hell, my Doctor Who collection alone is bigger than that! :lol

Mine's about 750GB, but i can clear off a bunch of that now that i've got the whole new era on BR :)
