Realistic gorilla?

Has anyone attempted a good old fashioned gorilla costume in the same style as Bob Burns?

I would really love to make one and use it for special appearances (to make a little extra loot).

There is a guy who makes a very nice gorilla online but it's $8500.00...

Let's bounce ideas such as making an articulated mouth and how to attach the fur to a body suit.

Thanks but I was thinking of something a little more elaborate.

I intend to sculpt the face myself. I was wondering how to make a good inner face plate with a moveable jaw....plus a good way to attach the fur to a body suit.

making a workin jaw that will open and close with your own mouth movement is a simple process, and probably done by some of the chewies on ere already maybe they will have some pics of the workings.

if you search about theres videos online of how they make pro gorilla suits, ive watched them before

If your going to sculpt the face yourself couldn't you just make a foam latex appliance from the mold? that would give you lots of other facial expression as well as an articulated jaw.

just a thought! & looking forward to other adding their ideas

I don't want anything that will take hours to put on. Prosthestics are very time consuming but they do look good as Rick Baker proved in the new POTA.

Some behind the scenes pics (well apparently. but they look suspiciously like Stan Winston's studios) -

You know the old saying "pull a monkey out your butt"
Well now we know what you pull out of a monkies butt. A WOMEN!:lol

I need to find me a monkey!:lol

That costume is awesome.

I remember a special feature from that movie Congo that had some interesting insight on realistic gorilla costumes. In particular the arm extensions stuck out in my mind.

There are some great pics of gorilla costumes in the book "No Strings Attached" about the Henson creature shop. They show arm extensions as well as multiple animatronic heads. I'll see what I can dig up from the book tonight.

Try emailing Verne at www.vernelangdon.com He mostly does music these days, but worked on all the Planet of the Apes movies and TV series, and also knew many of Hollywood's great "Gorilla Men". He might have some good input for ya. :)

Tell him Sarge sent you!

For attaching the fur to the undersuit they used a popper type fixing for the undersuit to the costumes on 2001 pota.

not sure if this idea is any good?

note the poppers running across the chest, they also follow along the back.
