Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle - Test Casting 1/6/14

Beautiful work! Love the folds of skin around the neck. Very dynamic.

Second casting is in the mold - I'll open it up in the morning. Here's hoping!

Amazing work, in my mind I shall call him Raphael, because he was my favorite. ;)

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle - First pull! 1.9.14

I cut off the foam "mushroom" at the base, cleaned up the flashing at the seam down the spine, and filled the one small air bubble I could find with epoxy. He's ready for paint! Here's a shot of the sculpt and his baby brother:

All I can say is WOW!!! Have been watching for a while and this baffles me.

That is an awesome piece of work, one of the best I've seen. I love the TMNT's, I can hear Vanilla Ice in the background now........lol.

That really turned out amazing. Can't wait to see some paint on these!

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle - First pull! 1.9.14

Primed the first pull last night, hoping to start painting today!

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle - First pull! 1.9.14

So far:

Rustoleum grey plastic primer
Rustoleum 2x paint/primer shades of brown/tan/green as a basecoat
Liquitex acrylic paints, dry brushed and washed

I intend to do another pass, adding some highlights and just a touch of color back in after these dark washes. The eyes will get a high-gloss coat after I decide what (if any) color or flecks they'll contain. I'd like to add the tops of front and back shells to the bust along with the bandana, straps, scabbards, and katana handles...

Douglas, my dear sir, this is a masterpiece in every way.
Just found this thread and saw the video. I was expecting the sculpture to blink in the final shot. So lifelike. :)

And on a side note. This was a worthy thread for my first post on RPF.

Subscribing to this and will look at your other work.

Well done! Well done! Inspirational and awesome. :)
