Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Man oh man...this is just an incredible job, what else is there to say about it? Your texturing and detail is just ridiculous. Cannot wait to see this thing finished!!

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Really nice job! I grew up with the TMNT's so this takes me back (and makes me feel old already :eek :lol)

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Those textures really sell its turtleness!

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Thanks again, fellas! Hopefully I'll have a "finished sculpt" update this weekend...

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

That is what I call true artistry, the texturing is amazing. I can't wait to see it all finished.

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Another weekend, no mold... :confused

Last week a bunch of surprise stuff came up - Dropkick Murphys & Bosstones at Fenway Park, a shoot in Maine, and a pile of freelance work - all in addition to the day job and family commitments. Needless to say, I lost the working time I thought I'd have! Instead of molding this weekend, I made up that sculpting time. I got a few hours in, and with a couple sessions this week he should be absolutely ready to mold this coming weekend. It'll still be mid-september, so I'm still happy with the timeline.

Last night, I got to detailing the other side of his face (his right, our left). Something clicked and I got some shapes and details on the front of the cheek and around his eye that I'm really happy with. So much so, in fact, that I'm going to rework the side I thought I had finished to match a bit more closely.

I also started some work on the back of the head and the neck/shoulders. The channel that begins on the forehead goes up over the top of the head and down the back, and sort of evolves into a spine-like column toward the base of the neck.

I didn't have a chance to shoot pictures, but I'll get some up today or tomorrow if I can!

Another half-hour last night... Inching to the finish line! :)

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

I'd say the dropkick murphy's in Fenway were class:D.. i gotta get to Boston someday.

That blend from the head down to the spine sounds really cool, will it merge with the shell or continue down as the spine? Looking forward to seeing more pics. Hopefully once im done molding I can get back to zbrush:)

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Hey Jonny,

Nothing's gonna merge with anything else - I'm hoping it's long enough that it extends far enough beneath the shell.

I haven't forgotten about your head-on images - the ones I took are already outdated though. I want to take new ones.

OMG! I must have missed this, but its a phenominal sculpt. I love the level of detail going into this. I'm doing a sculpt as well. Seeing your build helps me tremendously. Thank you for posting your progress. Awesome job!

Really?? Cooool:D.. I havent been a fan too long, maybe about 3-4yrs. I actually got into them when i was on a J1 working/holiday trip to the states. I liked the whole Irish/punky/heavy style they got, its just an interesting sound and it always gets you in a party mood, or its even cool just to sculpt too:D... So you hook me up with tickets when I get here?:p.. have you played at many venues with them? The gf is dying to see NY and since i've seen it already i'd like to take a trip up to Boston as im there.

I had a feeling i'd have to make a few updates:p.. im keen to see what changes you have made.

Just caught this thread. Wow, I'm totally in awe of your talent. Fantastic work.

Re: "Real" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween 2011! Update 9/6

Nice work Doug. I don't know how I missed this thread. Really cool idea doing a realistic turtle. It also allows you to have a lot of fun with it and not trying to duplicate and exact copy of a movie version. Dying to see the final result. Hope you are able to finish it by Halloween.

Jonny, I hope to catch a show out here with you sometime!

Hey Sweet! How've you been? It's funny, I thought about your brother's sculpts and his great lines and details very often while working on this. Has he done anything cool recently?
