I was at a junk market when I saw the barrel sticking out of a pile of junk so I got it out of the pile to have a look. The stall holder came over and I asked him how he had come by it. He told me that in the late 1970's he had a passing interest in German militaria and a friend who at the time worked in the British film industry gave it to him saying that it was a prop that had been used in a couple of films, unfortunatly he did not know which ones.

It is made out of Fibre glass and appears to have been moulded from a real MP40. it is really light to carry. built into it is a blank fire staring pistol which I was told was so that when the trigger was pulled it helped the dubbing in of the machine gun sound. For a prop it has a lot of detail, a removable dummy barrel, moving sights, working bipod and opening Top cover. i bargained with the stall holder and got it eventually for abou t£25 which is about $50. My wife asked why I wanted it as I have a real MG42 and the answer is as a Christmas present for a friend who is a WW2 reenactor with a SS unit. He is also my local vicar. for the record he was very pleased with it.

Anyone else had any good finds recently?

Uhhh...I found a quarter in the parking lot the other day.

To answer your question..."no", nothing quite that good. :eek

Wow...what a score. I'd kill for a MG 42 like that. All I seem to find at yard sales are paintings of clowns on velvet. :p

Nice Score and VERY nice of you to give it to your friend. :thumbsup

I saw one of those on Ebay a couple of years ago, it was a resin casting of an MG42, and it went for a little over 100 bucks.

Damn nice find. Odd quincidence, over the weekend on the History Channel (or one like it) I saw a programme about the development of small weapons in Germany from 31 to the end of WWII. For a time, the Germans really got in to the Machine Pistol concept. Approximately a year before the war ended they came up with an actually assault rifle. The show gave Hitler credit for coining the term 'Assault Rifle'. Funky, 'eh?

p.s. Does the Starter pistol still fire?

Back in the 80s, I read an interview with Sam Rolfe (I think that the magazine was "Top Seceret") about the development of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", and they talked about the changes in Solo's pistol. A P-38 that could fire full-auto, to one with a silencer, up to the full carbine version, but always a P-38. Sam Rolfe said that back in WWII, his unit ran into a German unit armed with P-38s that could fire full-auto, and they made a big impression on him. :lol
