RE-CASTER WARNING- Halo assault rifle by Link.

Sorry to see that as it's a beautiful piece.

Unfortunately it seems that outside the prop community... recasting is much more prevelant and for the most part, acceptable or at least accepted as long as swag is gotten by those with their heads turned.

Well, looks like they are aware that we're calling them on their crap. I can't get in to see the 405th thread either - let's have some discussion of the tells over here. Here's a comment they added to their auction:

*NEW NOTE- Recently we have recieved emails fiercly questioning as to the source of our master rifle that was used to make molds of. Even going as far as to insinuate that we purchased their artist buddies hard work and recasted it. This is not the case whatsoever and is absurd. I don't know where this idea comes from that only one person in the millions upon millions of people in the world is sitting in the mountains like a ninja sculpting sheet rock into perfection. Give me a break. This is business and an art. Hundreds of people produce these, the idea of puchasing REFERENCE photo cd's is for what exactly?, accuracy for the artist to replicate something to a T, correct? So when it looks identical and beautiful theres complaints? please. Our armor AND our gun are independantly crafted in Ontario,Canada and is not your friends work at all. Also, the original gun is made of thick heavy sheet metal and solid heavy plastic and steel bolts. Very heavy and was meant for display mostly. You would NOT want to carry the original around for very long at all or to a convention. The same with our armour which is beautiful and coming very shortly. It is NOT your friends work, and if you wish to wear our original 1.5cm thick clay armor, by all means cancell your gym membership.

Our work is produced by experts not kids playing with resin in their mom's garage producing poor work with air bubbles, wrong materials and you name it. A lot of money is invested in platinum cured silicone and picks up even a fingerprint. That being said, I hope you get the idea.

And please enjoy our work. The pictures should be enough. Look forward to the deluxe armor shortly.

Thanks.

link doesn't work because they don't have access to the classified section- if an admin on the forum moved it they could see it.

There is a ring of recasters up there, the were busted for recasting MG and KB clone armor among other things.

Appart from the time and effort put into a piece, only to have another copy it for 'free'. The re cast is and always be a re cast but the 'orriginal' is still and always will be just that. Playing devils advocate why then is there such a backlash against the recaster. I mean a copy of a MR helmet would always be worth less to me than the real deal. I don't want to start a fight and if this has been discussed elsewhere then please point me in the right direction.

I'm only after information so I can understand better. Please appreciate that.

In the case of garage kits you're less aware of what the source is.If you buy an MR it comes in an MR box and has authentication but if someone buys a rifle from Link and then makes a mould to sell copies you don't know who the originator was.

The recaster has only had to make a mould and recover the cost of the piece that they bought, the originator had to put time and money into making the prototype, working out how to mould it and making the moulds so the recaster can either undercut the originator on price or make a greater profit all without having to have any talent other than mould making.

Thanks for that. Although I'ld have thought that if you had one of Links items than youl'd know it, branded box or not. So if you sold it it would be an original Link etc. etc. However I take your wider point. Thank you.

I think you answered your own question here. The recast will always be worth less. That's the point. Many people don't buy things because of what they're worth, they buy them because it's cool and they want it. So if it's worth a lot less, it will Cost a lot less, and more people will be able to afford them, so if you're the everyday average person and you see an original MR vader helmet for $1,000 and one that looks identical for $300, which one are you going to buy? And how many more people would think that $1,000 is too much, but $300 is doable?
