Hi guys, I've been working on this costume project for some years on and off, what with work and loss of interest it got mothed balled until a few months ago when I decided the hell with it, get my head into gear and get on with it! I wasn't planning on nothing major, but I have decided to try and make the head move aswell as the fans or mane on the hood part of the costume, and boy it wasn't easy! but I have finally managed to get working prototypes up and running for them, the eyes were the easiest bit, blue led's but the eye lenses are proving a bit more tricky to find or replicate, I thought of back lighting a couple of mini magnifying glasses with the led's for the eyes, if anyone can come up with a better idea it would be greatly appreciated. It's still a really rough work in progress, the ear angle is out so I'll have to re-position them at some stage, add an inch or two to the nose section of the head as it's a tad too short, oh loads of sanding, filling and detailing. I apologies for the poor picture quality and is some way off from being completed. In the photo's you can see the neck collar is cardboard as a base, heck it's free and endless in supply and is my way of building costumes. Once I'm happy with each part, it gets a resin coat then fibreglassed, filled and painted the same with all the costume build in effect. The hardest and most time consuming part is all the detail work on the hard parts, it's mundane, finger numbing, makes your brain scream in agony and your nerves want to go away on a long vacation. I'll post up pic's of the other parts when I'm happy with the results and their painted up. Updates will eventually follow, but again I'm not rushing this project as it's been literally years in the making, well on and off! hope you like, and all comments welcome.

The black lines you can see on the head are for reference to the angles while I'm re-doing parts of it. yeah it does look tacky, I know.

Looks like you are off to a really good start. I have always loved those helmets in the film. Really looking forward to seeing more!

Great scratch build on this man! Really capture the look! I think I didn't like the show because they were missing the UBER awesome gaurd costumes...

Keep up the good work!

(edit:just realised 2 back to back duct tape signatures! LOL)

Re: Ra's Anubis guard ( Stargate movie version ) W.I.P

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. It's really hard to get the detail correct as I'm having trouble source reference photo's for this project, got some good head shots but as for the rest of the costume it's proving really difficult, IE still can't get a clear shot of the shin armour or the back of the costume, looks like the vest is the same front and back, and the skirt looks pink in one photo and lilac in another?? if anyone has got good clear stills of these please let me know. The other problem I may encounter is the colour for all the armour work, it looks like a bronze thats been aged, any idea what's the best way to age this once it's completed guys?? This is proving really challenging for me and if it comes off, I'll be one very happy dude indeed, but thats some way off yet I'm afraid. I'm currently finishing of the head piece ready to add the electrics for the eyes and cable system for the head movement ( god that gave me nightmares for weeks ) but I finally managed to make it work,If I get the time I'll try and put up a tutorial of how I did the head system aswell as some photo's. Next on the hit list once I've done the above is to work my way down the costume, So I'll update this thread with each piece once built.

I've followed the Stargate series from start to end ( missed one or two though ) and you do see an Anubis helmet on a pedestal in one episode in an alien musuem! Got to admit it I loved the look of the Anubis guard from the word go, something about it! If anyone has mp3 files for the voice of the Anubis guard from the movie please get in touch as this would be the icing on the cake once it's completed.

Here's a couple of the underside of the head piece, it's rough and ready at the minute, but it'll give you an idea of how it works, you'll see that the ears are too far apart and need bringing in a tad also. Note the led's, thay are extremey bright and do hurt your eyes if you look at them long enough, Not planning on doing that though! LOL.

Re: Ra's Anubis guard ( Stargate movie version ) W.I.P

Does anyone kow where I can find mp3 files of the voice of the anubis guard taken from the film, he doesn't say much but if I can find good clean files of his voice it would make my day and would comlpete the project!!!

Re: Ra's Anubis guard ( Stargate movie version ) W.I.P

Incredible work!!!! Can't wait to see it finished..

Do you scratchbuild it 100% or you make some kind of pepakura base or something like that???

Great work, bro!!

Hi there, thanks for the great comments on this build, and is appreciated buddy. it's a mix of pep and scratch build, the jackals head is scratch built by myself, the hood is from Unheards pep Stargate Horus files ( Thanks Unheard for Sharing these great files, Movieman for unfolding them and is great for my future Horus build mate!! )

I'm taking my time with this Anubis project, cause there's so much detail to do and I'm still working on the head! It won't ever be a perfect match to the screen used version but I'm doing what I can to get a close resemblance to it. I been searching the good ole internet to try and find sound files of the Anubis guards voice from the film, but it seems like a futile task, as I can't find anything, there's loads for SG-1, Atlantis and Universe, but nothing from the film, so unless some one can save my ass and my search for these voice files, can anyone recomend a good voice changer that will give my own voice a similar tone to the Anubis from the film?? Agaiin any and all help is very much appreciated guys!

Re: Ra's Anubis guard ( Stargate movie version ) W.I.P

Anubis, any new about this wonderful project?

Just getting back into it has I've been ill for the last few weeks, will hopefully be updating it by the weekend, fingers crossed! Before the health issue I was concentrating on re doing the head piece as I wasn't completely happy with the ears and the proportions of the head. Redoing it as I type this out. Once it's more to my liking I'm going to add a final layer of bondo, sand and smooth that out so I can start on the engraving work, then I'll do a proper cast of the final finished head piece. Once thats completed I'll be on with the hood engraving, once it's been given the bondo treatment that is and then I'll cast that too. I can't sculpt to save my life and this the easiest way for me to work. Hope that makes sense?

I've decided to add a twist to the costume build as I'm not that muscular up top so I have been working on a semi padded torso suit that will be cut to shape and go under the cloth material of the costume, I'm also adding shoulder armour to the project and I'll use small chains to connect the shoulders the the bicep pieces seen in the film, I know it's moving away from the screen version, but hopefully it'll fit in place. uploaded a couple of pic's of the half finished torso piece with and with out the half done collar.

Apologises for it looking a mess at the moment, the hoods in bare glass and needs a little more trimming before being bondo'd and the neck collar is still an unfinished template.

Anyway here's the pic's so far......

Seems you are on the right way with it, even f it is too early to say it - the real trouble with this is the tremendous details that should be sculpted on the surface of the helmet.
Please keep us informed about it!

Cool! I made one back in 95? One thing that helped with detail and general proportions was the commercially released model kit. Fom what I could tell they got the detail lines mostly right.
