R2 d2 models

Hi all

I am trying to get a model kit of R2 D2. A few crop up on ebay but I also came across one made by phantom, but could find no details or website under that makers name.

If anyone can point me in the right direction for that web site, or anywhere else in the UK that has a model of R2 I would be grateful.

Many thanks

Do you mean lifesize or "model kit" as in "1/6th" or something ? Try MPC or Kenner with your search, that will get you a lot of the first model kits from 1977/78 at a decent price, most go for around 20 US-$. And if you find one with german writing and german instructions, let me know ;)

Hi There

Try here

http://www.comet-miniatures.co.uk/browse.php?zone=11&s_categ=101&page=2&

It's comet miniatures in London UK, if the link doesn't work go to the comet miniatures website and go through models kits, star wars, then I think it's on the second page.

I have this kit, it's nice, made fom vinyl, so will need to be superglued together and is about 6 inches high.

I'd recommend you prime it with a coat of halfords white plastic primer first and then paint it with tamiya acrylics as enamels don't dry well on vinyl kits.

Hope that helps

That's a recast of the Kaiyodo/Screamin' R2-D2 kit, JFYI.

Gentle Giant is coming out with a 1:6 scale statue during this or next year.

I've got one of the original Kaiyodo kits and it's a bit more like 1/7 scale. Artoo was 42" and the kit is 6" high. Still, it is a very nice sculpt, the best detailing on an Artoo kit I've seen, highly detailed. :thumbsup They actually got the panelling on the head right. Puts the old MPC kit to shame.

Just a shame only 1 pop up every 10 years or so... utterly impossible to get hold of. Have only seen 1 original being sold on eBay in all my time there... and sadly I was out of cash! :cry

Hi all

Thanks for the info. I am making a full size one, but just wanted to make a miniature one as well. I'll just keep looking till I find the mpc ertl one as I prefer sticking that plastic oppose to superglueing vinyl

IMHO a great replica of R2 is the Hasbro Interactive toy from awhile back

These can still be found for $120 or there abouts. It's big too, about 18" tall I guess. Plus it has really cool electronics, lights, and even voice-recognition features (it responds to commands).

The legs do not fold up but somebody with a dremel and enough patience might be able to model-ify it. :D

There is also a very nice R2 that is a telephone. Its about 10inches tall I'd guess eyeballing it... You can usually find one on ebay fairly cheap. I picked up one years ago, and its still proudly on my desk ;) The left leg doubles as the hadset. it is smatly designed so that when hung up you can not tell its a phone other then the cord - which detatches... ;)

Good luck!
