Question: Those We Do Not Speak Of costume

Hi there,

I'm planning on creating a replica of the costume for Those We Do Not Speak Of from The Village. I had a question about a certain part of it and my friend (who makes Star Wars armor) directed me here.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how I should make the spines that come out of the back of the cloak.

My idea was going out in the woods and finding good looking sticks and shaving the bark off. My screen-accuracy-crazy friend guffawed at this (saying they were deliberately crafted -- I think he's right) but didn't have any suggestions for me.

The stick idea sounds perfectly legit to me. Perhaps sticks mixed with animal bones or something like that since that's what the Villagers would have used anyway. Attach those to something firm that you can fix to the inside of the cloak with the spines sticking through the holes in the back and you'll have it. I've never seen anyone do this costume so I say it's a darn neat idea, go for it!

hahaha, that would be perfect! I just need to harvest her for the next 30 years.

I would go with strips of high density foam. Not the peanut packing type but the real dense stuff. That way you can cut them into strips and paint them. When you are ready to construct the spines simply build a back pack set up and poke them through the robe into the foam attached to the back pack. Now when you put on the robe all you have to do is slip your arms through the back pack straps.

Using foam will save your spine from future problems seeing as the weight of that costume would be horrendous!

Good idea for a costume to a fairly mediocre move.......although I really liked it!

By the way I thought you were going to make a costume of that guy we don't speak of that makes the Iron Man costumes.......................
