Question on source Galaxy Quest Vox

I was at a local store today and happened to find the Plasma disk on sale for $ 5 each. I bought a couple thinking these had to be the inside electronics of the Galaxy Quest Vox communicator. Now the big question is... Is there a source here for the shells or kits for the Vox communicator? Seemed like it would be a fun project to have a go at. If not, the plasma disk staill are quite a cool little piece. Has a voice recognition mode to light up at any sound. Seemed perfect for a project like this.

Someone on here (can't remember who, sorry) modded a vox kit so it would hold the little novelty plasma discs, to GREAT effect I might add.

Maybe they'll see this & speak up (read: POST PIX). :cool

EDIT: teh search funkshun is my friendz --> BEHOLD.

Exactly what I want to do. Thanks for the link, now to contact redshirt...

I've tried & I think Redshirt did too - the $5 discs are too big to make a hero Vox unless you make it thicker than the movie or figure out how to trim off about 1/2" of diameter on the thick glass disk. Sorry guys.

Look at the link I posted. mr.predicta did exactly what you're talking about. His vox was full of cool FX & fraught with win.

Yup, exactly why I was thinking it could be possible. Just would need to do a lot of dremelling. But as it would be, according to the kit source, the Vox is no longer available. There is an internet eBayer offering up castings, but the shrinkage and lower quality casting does not do it for this project.
At least I have the electronic thingy for it.
