this is my first post on this site..it made me laff cause i painted that dino and resculpted his forehead ridges that folks had rubbed off petting him.I really should redo his eyes ...I din't paint them
Made me think maybe my 2013 Halloween costume could be some sort of homemade version of such a suit. (Actually, I originally saw only a still photo of the side-cut of the model that they show in the first 20 seconds of that video... and that got me inspired!)
Now, I've done "armor" suits out of fiberglass and / or bondo (Iron Man and War Machine)... and in 2012 I made my first full latex mask ( Davey Jones from Pirates of the Carribean).... but I have never tried anything like this!
My first thought was: OK, somebody bent over like that would have a really sore back in no time! Honestly, even if I do meet my New Year's resolution to get back down to a reasonably-slim waist, I think I'd be in serious pain after an hour of being crouched over like that. Any thoughts on how one might minimize that? Perhaps build in some sort of support?
I'm going to have to do some more digging around here / research into how somebody with a limited budget for this sort of thing (say, $500, preferrably LESS) could build such a suit. That's a lot of square footage of skin material !
Yeah, saw a guy last year dressed as a rebel soldier riding a Taun-taun a la that effect. It was pretty cool ! (I think he may have been using those small stilts for the Taun-taun's lower legs too... he was really tall, but I only saw him briefly... I was leaving the bar, he was coming in..)
I don't know if this helps too much, but anybody in the US watch Tosh.0 on Comedy Central?
Anyways, he had video on there from Melbourne with this velociraptor suit, and I thought it was spectacular. I don't have any other details, but after watching that I WANTED ONE.
Great link! I was thinking of this exact video when reading this thread. Thanks for sharing it.
I'd LOVE to have a suit like this. Maybe after my Iron Man build.... :confused
Are there build forums out there for costumes like this? Blogs? How to sites? Maybe it's time we start amassing some info. I'd be most interested in an armature that was light and easy to work with. I wouldn't want to spend all of Halloween crouched over with a big weight on me.
