Re: Mask commission - suggestions?

I want to find someone who can sculpt and make a thick latex mask of the "pumpkin mask" from the new Halloween film. (like the one on my face on my avatar) I have some hi-res pictures of the screen used one (and can probably get more if needed) but I want someone who will not mass produce them, but do a very limited run. The ones currently selling on E-Bay are very inaccurate to the screen used piece. If anyone has any suggestions about who I could contact please let me know.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Mask commission - suggestions?

I haven't seen the film, but the original looks like paper mache with orange tissue paper. If that's the case, I think copies in paper mache would be cooler than latex.

Re: Mask commission - suggestions?

Try Mike at www.Kreationx.com

He actually just comissioned a sculpt of the mask, but may be interested in doing another if you can provide perfect reference.

You may also want to try the guys over at The Halloween Mask Association www.thehma.net. Lot's of talented folks over there, and they even have a section listing artists and rates.

I did try Mike but he wanted to do a run with casting from Tyler's screen used one and I'm not comfortable doing that. But thanks for the suggestion. His is the one that is selling a version that actually is off a lot, and up close is very different from the screen used one. Not putting his down in any way, it just looks VERY different up close from the real thing.

As for the making out of paper suggestion that is what it is suppose to be made from in the move, but the screen used one is Latex, and I think the Latex would hold up better with age ( in terms of keeping it's shape and look - maybe that is all wrong) The bonus of paper is that I could just make it myself (or at least try) maybe I will consider that. I might be able to do it on a shell of some kind to give it more stability.

I will give the folks at www.thehma.net a try also, I have never really looked around that site before. as well as Nightseeds link.:)

Thanks to all for the suggestions:thumbsup

Look on ebay they already exist

Re: Mask commission - suggestions?

Yeah, but they do not look like the real thing, at all. Maybe from a distance, but up close they are all wrong.

Well, they don't look like the real thing because they don't have the refference pics like you do.... I'm not sure you can find someone who will just do just a limited run with all that info...

Also, as much as I would like a latex one about a paper mache one, for realism, I would go with the paper one... It all depends on how often you plan on wearing it

Re: Mask commission - suggestions?

I have seen that one painter x, it just isn't very close besides overall outline form.

I am not complaining because they don't look right, i understand the referance issue. I was just saying that to explain why buying one of the ones offered was not an option.

I agree that a limited run is unlikely from the response I have received, and since I am not comfortable being part of a massive ebay run I will give making one myself a shot. I don't plan to wear it, and doesn't need to be as durable as the screen used one. Seems like the easiest answer. :)
Thanks again for the suggestions.
