Question about throat mics

Anybody out there use a throat mic for their costumes? I'm tweaking my vader and one of the big problems is as soon as I mash my face in the helmet, the head mic I use gets all pushed around. I've looked at throat mics, but am a little confused. Can you plug them right onto a voice amp or vortex? Thanks,

John

You should be able to, just look for a unit with two plugs rather than the one unit that has both the mic and speaker plugs. You may have to rewire the plug as well to get a 3.5mm mini-plug rather than the 2.5mm that is typical. I think kenwood uses a 3.5mm mic plug though. I would also reccomend a unit with integrated VOX so you don't have to PTT every time you want to talk.

I tried one on my TK once, didn't work so well. It didn't pick up my voice clearly and between beard stubble and my neckseal most of what came out of the speaker was scratchy static.

I use one with my Vortex 2 and it works great. very clear.
mine is called a Firefox throat mic

Do you have a link to the one you have? Is it VOX or push to talk? Thanks for the help,

John

i use the RS gooseneck boom headset in my MR rots lid, and havent had a issue with it at all. its really sensitive, and i barely have to say anything and it picks my voice up really well. i also use a V2 unit.

Maybe I'll try that one. The one that came with my waist amp is ok, but it's just too hard to get in the helmet. Thanks for all the help,
John.
