Question about the Iron Throne (dis)coloration/aging

A fast-forward update since I had a week off from work and got a good 45 hours of progress in. I have lots of progress pics but in the interest of not creating a monster post, here's where I'm at:

Probably have 2-3 weekends of work left and then it will be onto the aging.

Wow! It's looking fantastic.
Have you weighed that bad-boy yet? Must be heavy!

Thank you! I haven't weighed it but it's ballpark 45lbs I'd say. Once I finish it and put a base on it I'm guessing 60-70lbs. It's a beast. There will be over 400 swords on it by the time it's done.

Victoria has made a full size replica which she takes to various events and would also offer any help you need. She's a lovely person so feel free to message her. I know pretty much most of the cast have now sat on her throne and signed it :)

Huh, neat. That's not bad! I'd love to make a full size one, a "real" one (all metal, bent and melted into shape) but I'd really need someone to commission me for the work since I'm not loaded. And I don't have any good spot to put it in my house either so I wouldn't want to be stuck with it.

It's a long, cold winter here in the Northeast, it would be a killer project to work on. Maybe someday.

Progress update for the weekend. Just two pictures since all the work done was on the front. I completed the bottom front area (where your lower legs and feet go, along with the corners) and the rear of the seat. It took quite a while since the swords on the seat back are extra detailed. Spent quite a bit of time on the handguards, pommels, etc.. They really stand out as a result though, which is what I intended.

Construction is basically complete at this point. Next weekend I'm going to make a base plate for it to sit on (will eventually add a turntable bearing so it can be spun around) and just do some detail work roughing it all up and any last adjustments before I start rusting the hell out of it.

Ended up with 430 swords on the structure! I made four extras for use with rusting/clearcoat test. 358 linear feet of steel flat bar!

Second-to-last update!

Construction is complete, it has now been gone over and detailed to the best of my ability. I also welded a 1/4" plate on the underside to finish it off (and act as a mount for the turntable bearing that will eventually be under it).

Today I stripped/etched it using muriatic acid and then I started rusting it using salt, hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar (it instantly rusts it). Gonna apply this a few times a day until it looks like...a 300 year old throne made of swords. Then I'll clearcoat it to protect the rust and that'll be that.

First pics are the completed construction pics, followed by two pics of how it looks now while it's being rusted:

It's done. As done as it's gonna get anyway. There are a few things I'm not super happy about but overall it's 90-95% perfect.

The rusting went well, a little too well almost. I sprayed it with 5 coats of satin clearcoat to seal in the rust so it can be handled. It ended up a bit too shiny as a result but not horrible. The clearcoat had a side-effect of darkening the rust quite a bit. Still not sure how I like it. But it looks old and crusty which was the point. I also mounted a turntable bearing on the underside (like a Lazy Susan) so it can be spun around (see last picture).

Final stats:
358' of linear steel
430 swords
86.2lbs
25" tall (last pic is for size reference with a standard 30" stool)

Now to decide if I keep it or sell it.
