I was searching Google for screen used Millenium falcon photos and came across this.does anyone know what it is?i obviously know it's part of the falcon but is it screen used or is it just a piece of a model that someone painted?

It's the rear Mandela (as ILM called it) upper rear deck of smaller falcon model from Empire strikes back, a lot of tells , mainly the colour , not sure if it's real studio model, someone here can discuss ( I'm more a 5 foot miniature junkie )

Yea that's what I'm basically trying to find out,if it was a screen used piece or just a piece of someone's model.i started painting my deagustine falcon and I was looking for clear reference photos.ive found a lot of decent ones but this photo seemed really clear and bright, probly the best ref I've seen but if it's not from ilm I don't wanna use it as a reference.

I think this is a genuine piece. I've been looking at the photo from the first link and comparing it to the reference photo attached and the details on the red panel seem to match including the missing Hanomag in the corner. The sad thing is the part has suffered some breakages where the countersunk bolts go as well as missing one of the thrust vectors.

Yea it's the real deal. I remember a member posted these a couple of years ago on Julien's Falcon thread. However, I would be leery of using it as a color reference. First I thought to myself, wow it sure is more green than I remember it being. Then I realized that the green hue seemed to be focused toward the middle of the deck. Then I compared this photo to others that were from the same series and realize it is some sort of artifact on the camera. The green area shows up in the same spot on every image no matter what was pictured.

thanks for confirming it's the real deal.i to was shocked by how green it looked, the main part I was focused on was the color of the top of the piece, the color I'm going to use as a base coat before all the weathering is added.to me it looks more of a light tan color,I used vellago paints and used pale sand with a little flat earth and olive drab mixed in.it matched that light tan color pretty good,I'm hoping it will turn out ok.knock on wood.

Film photography has such a heavy effect on colors that it's hard to gather much good data from it. You can take pics of the same thing in the same minute with two different cameras and end up with different results.

IMO the best way to use old pics is to look for other items in the frame that have known colors you can track down. "it's darker than this" and "it's yellower than that" etc.

I saw the 32in Falcon at the Smithsonian around '85 or '86, as part of a Hollywood exhibit. I was surprised at the time to see it was a beige color, similar to the plastic color of the MPC kit. Strangely my film photos I took came out just as white as it looks in the movies :lol

Here's some of the other images that Julien had posted of the 32" getting some well deserved maintenance:

Just an FYI, Julien (aka-MonsieurTox) did not post those images, they where posted by Duncanator, but they were posted on Julien's 32" Millenium Falcon V.2 thread (now unfortunately mostly deleted by Julien when he bailed the RPF...btw, you can get some of that thread back with the Wayback Machine site).

Just thought I would mention who really posted those gorgeous repair photos...Credit where credit due.

Wow those are amazing?would love to here more about it if you know more, like why was it being taken apart?when we're photos taken?and where were they taken?im pretty sure I'm gonna paint my falcon the same colors, luckily I got two of issues 1-6 so I can see how it looks on the cockpit tube and too turret thing before I 100% commit to these colors.
