Question about Light Sabers

A few of my friends want me to make them some sabers for Afest this year. I got most of the body made with the blade in the mail, but I need help with the lighting.

What is a good way to light the blade and have it glow bright?

There is no need for the chase effect or for sounds. All I am looking for in simple lighting.

I want the blade to be removable, and I think the LED string would stop that from happening.

The one I currently have looks like it has a single LED in it, but I know nothing about lighting.

You should check out The Custom Saber Shop. They have all the answers you need. But to get to the point, you need at least a battery pack, wires, switch, high-lumen LED such as a Seoul P4 or a Cree, a heatsink, and a collimator lens.

That is the basic setup, but I recommend a heatsink as well. Also, be sure you aren't feeding the led too much juice. 4AAA is 6 volts, and red LEDs for example cannot take as much voltage as other colors. Really, your questions about saber building are best asked at TCSS if you want a thorough answer.
