Question about Blu Ray/DVD Combo Packs

Ok, just wanting something cleared up here. So I went and bought 5 of these BR/DVD combos today at wal-mart because I figured "hey, you get BOTH versions for just a few bucks more than the standard DVD, why not?" and although I have both a BR player and a DVD player, ive been unpleasantly surprised to find out that the "DVD combo disc" doesnt play in any DVD player. I know its the disc that has the digital copy, but why say that the disc is a "DVD" and advertise the pack as a BR/DVD combo if technically you cant play the DVD in any DVD player?

Am I missing something here? Tried looking for info online, got nothing but adverts about said combo packs.

Anyone else had this issue? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There should be multiple disc, One for Blue ray, one fro DVD and then one for Digital copies. Sometimes they package the Bluray and Digital copy separate from the Blue Ray DVD combo, which can get you mixed up at the checkout. Carefully look at the boxes, they are packaged the same but have different combo's available.

Actually, that's not always the case anymore it seems. The Iron Man 2 BluRay/DVD combo pack I bought the other day has the digital copy and the DVD copy on the same disc. It was playable in my DVD player (watched it Saturday night) and I was able to load the movie onto my computer using the same disc. Most of the other combo packs I have typically do have an extra disc solely for the digital copy though.

With the Iron Man 2 BluRay/DVD combo, all of the special features are on the BluRay discs so the DVD version that has the digital copy is barebones as far as anything else goes.

(My HDTV died and so I can't watch any of my BluRays at the moment :( ...)

On the other hand, the BluRay/DVD combo of Beauty and the Beast I bought yesterday as a gift for my daughter doesn't have a digital copy but both discs have all the same extras assuming I remember what I read on the back of the case correctly.

Not sure any of that helps... anytime you buy a combo pack, I'd seriously scrutinize what you're getting. They usually list each disc and it's contents on the back of the box.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I've used the "digital copy" usually it downloads it from the iTunes store. Maybe if I were doing the other versions, it'd use the disc?

drives me nuts that DVDs are getting stripped of extra content now and its all on the blueray versions...

When I loaded Iron Man 2 on my laptop it used iTunes to activate it and it appeared to be downloading it but it wasn't actually downloading it from the iTunes server - it was downloading it from the disc. I only know this because if it had downloaded from the server it would have taken ALL DAY on my dsl connection but this downloaded in literally about 5 minutes.

By comparison, I downloaded a free HD tv episode from iTunes the other day and it literally took about 6-8 hours over my home dsl (the file size was close to about 1.8 Gb.)

So, I dunno... maybe iTunes references the file on the DVD and processes it as though it were on it's own server? :confused I got no clue...

I'm not familiar with any costs associated with disc burning, but that process for Iron Man 2 sounds expensive. Won't it be cheaper to burn two discs than to "merge" a Blu-ray and DVD together?

I think you misread. He said the digital copy and the dvd was on the same disc. The Blu-Ray is always on a separate disc.

The barebones DVD version is for the best picture and sound quality and keeping the features on the Blu-Ray. I sorta cringed when seeing that the Alice in Wonderland had the same features on both BR and DVD. But then again.
