Yea i also got a FARMSWORTH from QM but i had some :angry F\glue !!!! on it i was so mad at them... i must has got the crap one ... some glue is still on it for amount of money it was they could haved check all of them... it shows up in the light.....

wow, the faceplate weathering on those is really bad... whats with the rust color?

better screen = light up picture vs. blank black.

Did everyone else have to rebuild thier "crates" ?

may have been the effect of mailing cross country, but my box arrived in pieces that had to be hot glued back together.

the first time I tried to clean the big lens, I accidentailly pushed it into the box. I had to dissassemble the darn thing to put it back in place. The good news is that the lens should be easy enough to swap out when something better comes along. The bad news is that it was so poorly anchored in place to begin with. (double stick foam? Really?)
I tried to clean off my screen as well and it did the same thing. looks like double sticky tape or something. Can I ask how you removed the faceplate to stick the lense back. Im thinking about secring it with someting better.

Must be the way they were photographed. Mine doesn't have any of that redness in the finish. It looks like tarnished brass.

Actually that is just all it is on mine too. But I decided that I didn't like the blotchiness of it, so I took most of it off and will let it retarnish naturally and hopefully more evenly.

Did you use Brasso or Flitz to help the process along?

BTW: Both of my crates were in pieces as well.

The skirt on the black knob is way too thick, and the white indicator line is too short.

I think this very well could be attributed to different props and different stages of production... This is a season one replica, so you can immediately toss out and reference after season one (that accounts for most of the detailed reference photos) as there are obvious changes to the prop between seasons... That leaves you with using just season one screen grabs as a reference for a season one replica, now in many shots yes I will agree that knob does appear to be a slightly different knob... But I won't say it's conclusive in all shots, it could boil down to different knobs used on different builds or repairs over the production period, or that Qmx's reference was based of a season one unit that didn't see a ton of screen time, or possibly no close up... The podcast indicate that a lot of the close up cut scenes are done post daily shooting, so it wouldn't be far fetched that a specific hero unit is more or less used for the close ups, while other units are used for daily production shots, and there is almost certainly differences between each build... This same exact issue seems to jump up with every high end replica, I can remember many debates about MR items, items that were exact copies of items pulled from the LFL archives yet didn't 100% match the one in a certain close up scene in the movie so everyone gets up in arms...

I guess they could have cast off the screen used knob vs using a real currently available knob, but then again based on the center knob, you are not happy with that option either, seems like a no win situation...

I'm personally quite happy with it, I think it's every bit a faithful of replica of what was used, at least as far as anyone can expect for a licensed production item... If you want to hand build one and want to focus on specific details as seen in specific photo reference that is beyond what almost all licensed replicas are...

Well...*I* say we form a lynch mob and attack the QMx headquarters. Burn it to the ground. Kill their men, ravage their women. Carry off their livestock. (and plants). Total destruction. Nothing left.

...Then go write an opus about it.

There is simply NO excuse for getting this so wrong. When will these companies learn that they need to make replicas that precisely match MY hopes and expectations? I don't CARE if there were FOUR versions used during production. That is a Lame excuse! It needs to match the one that *I* have in MY head!

Why didn't they call me and just ASK what I wanted?

Is that SOOOOO hard? :angry

HMMM??? :angry :angry :angry :angry

Licensed replicas SUCK! They will NEVER be as good as fan-made stuff. I will take a pepakura Farnsworth ANY DAY over this disaster! First, it was the GOLDEN GUN and now THIS!!!I have had ENOUGH!!! :angry :sick :confused :cry :rolleyes

I say we break out the pitchforks and torches and KILL THEM!! KILL THEM ALL!!!

Who is with ME?????!!!!

(insert blunt comment about how QMx stiffed me out of $10,000)

Wow, there are some bitter people on this board. It's not like you guys worked for them or anything!

I swear there seems to be a point where these companies idea of quality control just goes out the window, seems to coincide with changeovers in staff strangely enough.

oops, I forgot, they can make paper props like nobody's business. I do give them that!

The only screengrabs I used as reference to compare the QMX Farnsworth are from season 1.
And they are conclusive.

For $300, there shouldn't be.

Oh, and there should be a slight more spacing between the edge of the glass lens and the edge of the hole on the panel, and the lens shouldn't be as recessed as it is.

True, but that's a licensed garage kit. It just didn't happen to get released in kit form (I have one of 'em, but haven't built it yet). SD and I came up with that idea. I used to work for an auction house that specialized in antique hand made dolls from the turn of the century (Jumeau, Bru, etc - BIG money porcelain). Before the Great War™, those companies hired out artisans who worked from their homes, and product was hand made. Back during MR days, Steve came up with MR Garage (which never took off, sadly) and I vividly remember that first lunch in PA with Steve and Docmani, when QMx was starting.

It was literally just the three of us, hashing out ideas about how to bring quality to market that didn't have to go to China - we couldn't afford to at the time, and we wanted to keep quality really high. We were relatively fresh off the MR Y-Wing, which was an accurized Steve Neisen & Gang kit, and that saved TONS in R&D. Everyone won - the skilled fans here on the RPF, the customer, MR. I said that we could do what those doll companies did 100 years ago, and basically approach the guys who made unlicensed kits and turn them into artisans that made licensed product. The cost would be high, because each would be hand made, but the quality would be top notch. There might even be the potential for a following... some artisans might get famous for their particular skill sets. We were going to call it the QMx Artisan series (sound familiar?). Like the original logo, I came up with an Artisan logo too.

All those ideas were eventually put into use, I see.

You basically paid an extra $600 to $1,000 for a licensing fee on a garage kit. Same with the people who bought BSG Blackbirds and Cylon Raiders. Not a bad money maker when you can't afford to make things overseas.
