Just put the final touches on this today. Before I start, it's not 100% accurate. I wanted to see what I could come up with just using scrap PVC and some extras. I'm still looking at my options for machining one of these with the proper dimensions.
I'd say it's about 8.5 or 9 inches. I'm kind of short, so it doesn't look too weird when I hold it. It's made of 3/4" gray PVC with the couplers and end caps spaced properly on the shaft. The larger ring is a full coupler with the ridge on the inside sanded down(so it could slide over the tube), and the ends beveled. Same deal with the smaller rings, a coupler cut into proper sized pieces and beveled. The final emitter is different from the one in the PVC photo (not all the pieces were glued down in that one by the way, I didn't notice the emitter had slid down when I snapped the photo). I ended up sculpting the bevel with Aves Fixit Sculpt.
The activator was also sculpted with Fixit Sculpt. The gray strip running up from the activator is two pieces of clear CD case glued together and cut/shaped to the proper size. The brass strip is a piece of chrome sink pipe bent so that the un-chromed side could face outward (couldn't sand the chrome off. It would have made it a lot easier if I could have.) And the belt loop is some kind of picture hanging thing I think. The silver color is Testors German Silver Metalic spray paint. The flat black and copper are just Testors brush on colors.
Anyway. I know it's not the prettiest thing out there, but I'm proud of it for what it is, scrap PVC. It's a nice 3 day weekend kind of project. It's something that can be thrown together quickly for Halloween or if you have kids bugging you for a lightsaber.
Have a good one, and thanks for looking
