Prop Replicas you didn't know you had (sometimes until too late)

One of the episodes in LOST heavily features the black shoes worn by Jack's Dad. I bought the same shoes from Kohls for 6 bucks the same year that episode came out. Nunn Bush oxfords. It cracked me up because I could just picture the prop guy running into Kohls and plunking down six Washingtons for the cheapest shoes he could get.

This was given to me as a gift:

Later to find James Franco using it in Spiderman 2:

Now for sale at BudK: Royal Knights Dagger with Sheath - BUDK

Back when I was around 6 I found this weird toy gun in my uncle's attic. Played with it a bit then lost it when I went to the woods with a friend. Around 6 years later as I was getting into Star trek I found out it was a custom made TOS phaser my Uncle had made using the old ST technical manual blueprints.

I use to have the same Nokia phone they had in the Matrix, the flick phone from the first film.

Gave it to a friend when he went traveling overseas and told him not to worry about giving it back. He binned it at the end of his trip. Really wish i had it now cause it would be fun to mod it so it flicked like it did in the movie.

I have that phone still, and still works. Not that I use it as my regular phone, it's in a drawer.
Binning such cool looking Nokia phone is a crime :behave

Okay, this is a bit obscure, but here goes:

In the recent Green Lantern movie, there's this flashback scene of him as a kid in his room with his dad or something. In one of the shots you can see this airplane poster way in the background that has some old 1903-1919 era airplanes. I have that on my wall.

When I was a kid back in the 90's, my grandpa gave me this giant history of aviation coffee table book that I could barely lift, and that poster, which is actually double sided, was in there somewhere. Not sure if it came with the book or if it was just in there, but I've had it on a wall ever since.

It took a good while after seeing that movie on Netflix to realize that I had the same poster when that the Green Lantern had.

In the movie "Wrath of Khan", Kirk and McCoy are sitting in Kirk's room, drinking Romulan Ale, etc. On a small table near Kirk is a brass and plexiglass sphere that looks like a satellite - even has a small "radar dish" like shape on it. This device was a personal weather station with thermometer, hygrometer and barometer. I know because I got one exactly like it for Christmas back in the early 70's. I kept it in good condition for years, but by the time Wrath of Khan came out, it had been damaged during a move to a new home and thrown away.

i like to collect random vintage electronics that i usually get given cos i "like to play around with stuff" and about 3 years ago a mates mum gave me an old laptop. it turned out to be the same model as one of the laptops used ion the first Hackers film. have still yet to turn it into a full replica. nice freebee tho

Many years ago I worked near WoW (Worlds of Wonder, the folks that made Lazer Tag and Teddy Ruxpin). Around Christmas they had a sale open to the public where you could pick-up stuff at employee prices.

At the time they also had a line of school supplies so I nabbed some three-ring binders and stuff. Years later I noticed that those binders were used on ST:TNG as sort of secured document holders.

One other piece I have isn't so much a prop as set-dressing. At a surplus merchandising store I found this very weird sunglass case (looks like something designed by Ken Adam) that I bought to display smaller bits of memorabilia.

Anyway, flash forward about a decade and in the new Casino Royale, one of the bad guys pauses at the same sunglass case, using the mirrors (which I replaced with graphics) to see he's being followed by 007.

One of the steadicam arms that we're almost sure is the one that supported Vasquez's smartgun is still in use as a piece of filmmaking equipment in London, or at least was a few years ago. I have a photo somewhere. Does this count?

Right now I'm using the same type of keyboard that SHIELD agents use in "Avengers" at the Helicarrier base. It's a Saitek Eclipse II... I think :p

In reading this thread and also being a prop/costume/collector guy, I though I would chime in on a recent issue I've been pondering.
I have been acting in some true crime re-enactments that air on different networks. The parts keep getting bigger and I plan on following the acting as far as it will go.
I recently played in one where I'm the killer and there is a lot of potential for bigger roles to follow.
For the show some wardrobe was my own personal cloths, cause they fit better. Anyway, I guess if I eventually get famous those cloths might be worth something. I mean, how much would collectors pay for screen used costumes from a big stars first role?
On another note
To be honest, most props, set dressing, etc. are usually odds and ends that their department goes out to fleamarkets and good will stores to find. not to mention the production company keeps them around for use on other projects. It's always cool to own something that is also used in a production. It serves as a connection and also a bit of scale. Stars always seem larger than life until you meet them or have one of those props and realize they are kinda average size or even kinda small.

In Starship Troopers II there is a scene in which a criminal is being sentenced by a judge. The gavel the judge uses is an all metal meat tenderizer and I have one just like it.

To bad that's the most memorable scene from the whole movie for me.

This has happened a few times to me.
One of the things was the video camera in the remake of house on haunted hill.
Another is the camcorder from bttf (altho this was my brothers, and I do still think he has it)
I also just recently got rid of my brown willisons jacket (supernatural) about a month before I started watching the show.
I am sure there are more but I cannot think of them at the moment.

How about this for a new update: This may not be at all interesting, but I've started rewatching The Walking Dead. I started with the episode Days Gone Bye (the first one) and I noticed that I have a prop replica I use on a regular basis that shows up. After arriving at the police station, Rick, Dwayne and Morgan begin to shower. You can see Rick using a razor while in the shower. The razor is a Gillette Fusion razor. It took me a moment to realize it because I recognized the orange piece near the razor portion. Like I said, it may not be as interesting, but I just can't help but laugh because I didn't even realize it was the same one until now. :lol
