Project: Steampunk

Wow! Everything looks great! Love the hat and ray gun. Can't wait to see it all completed.

I just recently started researching Steampunk. I love the victorian look. :)

I noticed in a post the other day that someone called Steampunk the "death of imagination" or somesuch. :confused

It seems to me that the steampunk movement is all about originality.

really? TRUE steampunk is totally "Do it yourself". Majority of the steampunks I've talked to have really spent a lot of time and imagination on their outfits and projects. You'll never see 2 of them dressed exactly the same!

Now, Nerfpunks and Movie Crossovers on the other hand... yup... please stop with that. thanks :p

:eek That is hard to believe. I am loving the Steampunk aesthetic. I find it to be truly imaginative.

Here's some crappy pix of my custom leather belt and holster that I made for my ray gun. I'll get some better pix up soon.

I went with a low drop down style holster, which is buckled to the upper straps so I can always change out the holster or to another one or to a pouch.

Close up of the locking closure, the holster is hand stitched.

I'm still working on the opposite side, ran out of time, lol. So far I have 1 pouch on the belt but will be adding more, and the key loop is temporary and will feature a drop down larger pouch similar to the gun set up.

This is really the ONLY picture I have of my girlfriend and I in our gear at Comic-Con.

Beautiful work, Utinni.

I've been a fan of Steampunk for years, but I don't have the time right now that it would take to commit to do the hobby justice, i.e., by doing things correctly and building by-hand (non-Nerf, hot glue, etc.). Maybe one of these days.....but, right now, I'm content to watch and learn, collect ideas....and hope that some of the 'fad' wears off in years to come....

Thanks!

I'm actually in the process of starting a Steampunk accessory business along with my jewelry, and will have a booth at next years SD Comic-Con.

I've recently been working on a huge Steampunk project for a fashion show at an Anime convention that's this weekend. My bf is the prop master in the house, I just have a small collection of sewing machines I have been known to use. The theme for my costume is Alice in Wonderland, and I was tasked with making a crow. He will probably start a thread on the construction of the various bits, but you can see some pics in the latest gallery I added to facebook.

I love this style, how it encourages creativity. The one big beef I know some have is the fact that people just seem to stick a cog on something and call it Steampunk. With this costume we wanted to make sure all the Steampunk bits really would have some purpose, more than just decor.

Ohhhh man....it's been a very, VERY long time since I've done any sawing and piercing. I forgot how much I loved doing it until going through this thread. Well...other than the breaking blades. It's always the corners that get me. I have to remember to be very concious of moving the blade up and down while turning directions as opposed to just turning and then starting to saw again. Unfortunately I have a nasty allergy to copper, which makes it more difficult, but I SO love the look of this technique with copper. Beautiful work! The spoon is totally outstanding and I LOVE the back of the boots!

Sorry, quick derail here. Did I read correctly that the fluorescent fluid in the pistol's capsule is jeweler's flux? Intriguing.

Two of my favorite hobbies dovetail very nicely:

I wore my 8th Doctor gear to a steampunk convention and fit right in.
