Predator with four arms and alien with google eyes??!!

i was just reading something on a website ( can't find it now.... grrrr.) that the 2 leading directors in AVP 2 had the chance to change the predator completely and did some that they thought best ( hence the new tusks and stuff ) but what really scared me was that they also said if they ever got the chance to have another shot they would make more modifications to make the series not so samey!. They already can mess around with the new predalien design as thats new anyway , i think its a really bad idea to mess around with the original predator and alien design!!. What the hell are they thinking , i will try and find the website again and post a link. I would love to hear some of your views on this because i think this needs to be brought up.
I know we have to move along with new visual effects and costumes but by the sounds of it they want to start fresh with predator and alien !
I just hope they don't stray to far away from it. Even the tusks made a huge difference and a thread was brought up about that so imagine if they gave hi four arms or something , oh my god , i'm scared !!!!

But seriously, they can't alter it too much, Alien and Predator are cult icons (witch this site is a testament to). And there are lots of fans out there who will go seriously crazy if they take to much "artistic freedom" in the design of the two species.

yeah i hated how they changed the alien just between aliens(the movie) and aliens 3 and reserection . . . and i watched the 1st AVP again today and the predators look so bulky in that movie like the end scene when the predators take the dead one back into the ship they all look way short and fat instead compared to the predators in the actual predator movies

yep thats another thing , they seriously have to keep big actors at around the same weight and bulkiness because every time they change the guy seems to be completely different lol. I know its a different predator but c'mon we can't have danny devito playing predator. Its so wrong!!!.
And changing heads from alien 1 , 2 , 3 and 4 was also annoying. I just hope they stay extremely close the the original design.
I hope at the end of AVP 2 we don't see like an elder with 6 mandibles , please god!. lol.

well maybe 6 mandibles would be cool if they did it right but all the predators in AVP when they took there masks off there eyes where way bugy like they didnt look as dark and evil as they should did any one else notice that?

Alright, I tried restraining myself from posting here, but I must speak.

Hey I'm all for taking the Predator character to new levels appearance wise or story wise. However it must be done with TACT!!! There have been strict guidlines associated with the creature - the movie Predator.

You can only do so much with a character before it becomes ridiculous and so far from the oringinal it's not funny. A Prime example of this is "Alien." The original can't be beaten. The second movies' desings were great, and rolled with the originals theme. The third movie - I actually like the creatures design and execution. The fourth... OK they're mutant hybrids. I guess that works. AVP... wow.. they're just like they were in Alien 4, but without the double jointed legs. The Alien design was so far from the original it's kinda silly. They're way too organic and not so much the "bio-mechanical," machine look of Alien.

This is what I'm talking about. Even with AVP-R on the way, the design is still kinda bland. The head looks good, but the neck is huge, and the body is still way too "blended."

In Predator 2 the creature changed only slightly. His appearance was different, but still easily recognizeable as the Predator. As Winston said himself - a snake is a snake; they might look different but they're still the same species. Ok so it's not word for word. They managed to change the design yet keep his dirty elegance. In AVP They totally revamped the character with hints of the first movie. His face was too friendly, his eyes were too puppy-dog like and his stature was way to big. That works for some of the bigger guys who costume, but for the purpose of a character that was based on tall, thin, agile warriors... it don't float. Sorry.

i know you can do more stuff with cg but my god i want a good "horror scifi" movie not a cartoon

Changing the look of the main characters is a cheap way to bring new life to an established platform. Look at all the great novels that have come out featuring aliens and predators, no visuals there so the authors had to do something crazy: rely on great story telling a clever insight to keep an old idea fresh.

Change is bad. And it's progressively bad in this franchise. I loved the look of Pred1, but when they reinvented the look of Pred2's face I still thought he was pretty cool. But cranky, I FREAKIN HATE HOW GOOFY THE PREDATOR'S FACE WAS IN AVP. Now they want to turn predator into Goro. (Slaps forehead)

Well, progression is a great thing, just as long as it serves purpose. Progression for the sake of progression is just nonsense... I'd love to see a new AVP, set on a distant colony, with hordes of aliens (or small packs all over the place) and at least 4 Predators hunting them, looking as unique as the lost hunters from P2...

Even before AVP was confirmed, I thought it'd be nice to have various studio's (KNB FX, SW, Weta and ADI) put their best designs on table, taking in mind only the races as seen in the first two predator films and the first three Alien films. With that guideline, and no furter information, let them make a ass-kick design of both creatures, and then decide who get's the job. They all can pull it off, and they each got their own style.

yep thats another thing thats right , if you watch the first few predator and alien movies they actually have the ability to be scary , but now that they add all this cg stuff in its not creepy any more , put it this way go and rent or buy a movie called rose red by stephen king and watch it alone , it will scare the crap out of you. Now go rent some crappy cg horror , it just doesn't work and its becoming to much in the horror and sci-fi world.

Yeah, I agree with you on the CG animation bit. No matter how good CG looks today in current movies its going to look like crap to us in 5 years. I bought a Arnold movie pack and the first flick I watched was Eraser, if you haven't seen it lately you should check it out. The scene when they're at the zoo and Arny shoots out a fish tank and aligators pour in and start eating people... they look TERRIBLE. I remember when that movie came out that scene was cool as hell... now it looks cartoonish.

im just pissed off royally at the dumb ass mouths, they didnt even look intimidating as preds should, they looked gormless and the mouths didnt even close, it sucked serious asses, I mean i know harrigan called P2 pussyface but i didnt think they should have expanded on that idea, i hate the AVP preds faces, i think adi did a great job but thats all those guys could do thanks to tithead anderson wanting to make them "heroic" and more human. personally i thought lost hunters at the end of P2 looked noble and the elder looked "heroic" that was enough, idiot man!
and the cg vs prop battle, i think cg when there is no other alternative, but using it to get crowds sucks giant hairy ass, the orginal pred from P1, even though its an old ish movie, looks as fresh and amazing as any cg creature today, and its more beleivable, if you must use cg do it subtly so we dont notice, like in transformers, we know its cg but we dont notice it that much! we dont want another jar jar thank you very much!

Man and I thought I was the only person put off by how f-ing goofy the AVP's mouth looked. LOL, the worst part had to be when the pred made that OH **** face when the queen broke through the ice... It's overly expressive face was laughable.

id love to see those overweight predators in AVP keep up with the predator hunting in the jungle in the first film. i cant really see them climbing up trees and jumping from branches. i thought he was gonna start telling jokes in AVP his face was so funny. cant beat the fist films!

LOL, I didn't even think about that. They should re-do Predator 1 and have it star one of those fat autistic preds from AVP. It would be funny to see one of them fall out of a tree a few times, not to mention watching their fat bodies sweat and weeze as they try to run around. And to think that Paul WS Anderson said that his predators were the superior ones and that the originals were adolecents. Idiot.

Tarantino's movies are very violent and usually involve guns and the actors always seem to have a cocky yet cool side to them , I can't really imagine that working for pred but you never know.
