Hey everyone, I'm new to the site and had a question on this model I bought. Got it from a small shop outside of some Mayan ruins in Mexico a couple years ago. He said it was made from "fish bone and tree sap" which I don't really believe, but once a small piece of a mandible tooth broke off and the material was white and resembled bone. Anyways... has anybody seen anything like this? I don't know if it's made from some Thai recast, if it scratchbuilt, etc. It's mostly black in color but has some shiny copper accents like a copper paint was drybrushed or maybe some copper was rubbed on it, I don't really know. Here are some pics, sorry they aren't much better quality. Any comments or info would be great, even if you think it's a piece of crap! I kinda like it.

That's a mystery to me. Try looking through predatorstuff.com or asking someone over at thehunterslair.com, perhaps? I didn't know a Pred skull had been made prior to the new Sideshow one (of course, there's a lot I don't know!).

Looks like a resin recast of the old Greyzon skull... That's been kicking about for years.

Thanks for the info, did some research on GreyZon and it does look similar. Funny that another guy got one in Mexico! Well I paid $40 for it.

What the heck is bone resin?

Resin that has been treated to look like bone.....I do that with my Egyptian jewelery.A stain or dry brushing would work

we went on a cruise at the beginning of december and saw several of the small vendors in the tourist areas selling predator stuff. all of their items were white, no dark colors in any of them. they had several different skulls, and one or two different full body statues about a foot high. there were only a few different versions, but we saw them all over the place.

i picked one up while visiting Old Town San Diego. Its not too bad looking, when i bought it was white so repainted to look old and ancient.

I picked one up off ebay that looked just like this, but bone colored- the seller claimed it was carved out of bone- when I received it, there were obvious seam lines! When I contacted him, he then backtracked and said it was "bone resin", claiming there was ground up bone mixed in with the resin-yeah, right. I demanded my money back and returned the skull- this guy was a real piece of work, and the "sculpt" was very poor quality- watch out for these on ebay, I think they're recasts.

Hey $40 bucks its not a bad deal, didn't know they were big on Predator stuff in Mexico.
