OK so I have been searching around for a really accurate model of the stargate and have only found one that was really accurate, the one from legends. Which was a limited and expensive piece, so I decided to try to make one that would be equally (maybe even more) accurate but not limited and much less expensive. But thats not so easy after all. The 3d model that i made is in the 90% area of being perfectly accurate but trying to turn it into a printable model has me pulling my hair out . The questions that I have are how many parts to make, what are good sizes for the models themselves, should I even do different sizes, whats the best way to put it together, any ideas/suggestions are needed.

here are links to pics of the rendered model and some different iterations i have uploaded to shapeways.

Nice work so far :thumbsup I am working on a full sized Stargate that I hope will be finished by the end of the summer. As I wont be making mine with a rotating Glyph panel There will only be three main parts, the back, front and bumpy outer ring. I'm making the Glyph panel with the curved lines matching on both ends so they run together when the sections are bolted together. The Glyphs and Dividing bars will be added separately.
If you are planning to mount it to the wall you only need to print one section of the front then mold it. I think a 2'-6" gate would be nice and so would a 7' one;)

I am planing (saving money) to make a full scale replica too, Its actually the original purpose of the 3d model i made.

I would like to be able to make 3 different sizes , 8" , 12", and 20". I am trying to avoid splitting the model into front and back halves because of the unsightly seam it would leave. And I think you just Answered one of my questions for me, print one complete segment for each size and then mold them to make the model. which would work for me personally but i was hoping to have these models readily available for everyone to purchase on shapeways.
