Possible addition to the CoC

Why? Granted, it's annoying and a little obnoxious, but nothing wrong with it that would merit a warning.

It doesn't bother me. I think it's just another way to express an opinion that's intended to be humorous.

Don't believe in Evolution!:lol

I never got the term moshing. It was Slaming in the pit for as long as I remember. I think Moshing came when there was a punk metal crossover.

According to wikipedia the etymology was a Jamacian said on stage for the crowd to "mash it up" but it was heard "mosh it up" due to his accent. This was carried into fanzines written mash but pronounced mosh until the mid-80s when the spelling in magazines had changed to match the pronunciation.

I've always thought of slamdancing as pretty much standing in the same spot jumping and crashing into people, while moshing is running around in a circle or from edge to edge of a circle crashing into people along the perimeter and inside.

I've seen both behaviors at different shows. Although there are some (SLAYER) that I don't recall seeing any slamdancing.

Maybe it's a regional thing. When i was a kid at shows, 84ish, The pit was a big circle and people were slam dancing.

Never heard of mosh pits until about 88 when bands like DRI and COC started to crossover. I can remember really early documentaries mention Slamming.

Which brings me to, I haven't seen a circle in years. It seems to be a free for all now. Those kooky kids.

I went to a show in NM in 92 or 93, was a bunch of Death Metal bands and that is pretty much how the pit was. There were two rings, one going clock wise and one counter clock wise. Bunch of people in the middle slamming and every so often someone would get pushed into the middle and then pushed right back out.

I think part of the change comes from available space. This show was in a huge convention center and we filled only a VERY small portion of it. Every show since I have had people on top of me and a large circle pit would not be possible. Even the White Zombie show I saw at a stadium in TX was far too packed and everything else has pretty much been in clubs where we're stuff in there like sardines.
