For those of you who may have been watching Wayside Creations' "Aperture R&D", you will for sure have seen Betty.

I built Betty a few months ago in a very short time span, with a decent budget, and the constraint that I keep it secret. With the webseries now released, I can talk about it and show some pictures.

I put together a blog post that includes ALL of the pictures I took, and a link to an episode of the series if you haven't seen it yet:

The Project Workbench: Building Betty for "Aperture R&D"

I hope you like the write up and the few pictures I managed to snap along the way.

Excellent build!

I wanted to build a personality core from the first game but could never figure out a good way to build two spheres that would fit together nicely enough. Your solution seems obvious now.

That's great. And ingenious to use the globe as an impromptu rotocast that becomes the cast's own nested outer layer. I'm definitely filing that trick away for future use.

Very cool! Turned out great! I seem to recall some Valve commentary from one of the animators discussing how Wheatley's eye actually represented a physical impossibility that could not be re-created in real life. It looks like you did a great job with a work-around!

Wow, awesome work! I have been hoping that someone would produce a personality sphere for sale but after seeing how much work goes into one I understand why that has not happened yet. So I will be content to drool over yours for now - again great job.

Looks great, Matt. I really enjoyed the spheres in the game and what you've come up with works nicely considering the constraints!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! It was indeed a very fun project to work on , though absolutely exhausting.

I put a lot of thought into molding it and offering castings, but because she is different from the in game model in some non-trivial ways, I figured there woudln't be much interest in it.

I also thought of building a more accurate wheatley, as nobody seems to be offering one, but MAN that is a complex beast!
