Poor man's E-11

Here's a few progress photos of my scratchbuilt PVC ANH stormtrooper E11; I've finally been working on this consistently the past week, considering this is as far as I've gotten in the 1 1/2 years or so it's been since I first cut into this PVC pipe...

One thing is for sure, the next one I build is gonna have a resin cast grip; Scratchbuilding this one has just about put me over the deep end... :lol Just goes to show how shoddy something can turn out with only the old Mark 1 eyeball and a dremel (Which BTW, mine did not die, but the shaft extension busted)...

Comments thus far are always welcome... Hopefully the fully finished blaster will look tons better than the WIP pics...

Hey, that's looking GOOD..

:thumbsup

Awesome work, with great attention to detail.

Impressive work. I hate living in a small apartment, as I have no place to work on anything like that. I'd love to take a shot at making a PVC E-11 one of these days. Looks damned good. :thumbsup

SCRATCHBUILT grip? How did you make the grip pattern? That turned out great.

As someone who has traveled this path, I can sympathize. The E-11 ain't as easy as it looks.

My fist prop project ever was a scratch built E-11. I ended up using a paintball gun grip because I couldn't pull off a good scratch built one, but your's looks fantastic.

I bow to your craftmanship.

The grip was interesting to say the least...

I really couldn't find anything that was close to a checkered grip so, I cut the overall grip from an old wooden shelf, then a thinner sheet of plastic (a hardware store for sale sign) glued to that, then the grips are about 1/16" or so sheet styrene...

Trick was, cut the styrene to shape, spray liberally with a clear coat, take a section of nylon/plastic door screening, and set it into the clearcoat. let the screening dry into the clearcoat, trim the excess off, and give a few (4 or 5 in my case) coats of grey primer...

then just glue the grip panel to the rest of the grip frame, give a couple more coats of primer, then about 3 shots of semigloss black, and voila.

Next E11 I do, I'll be sure and do a step by step tutorial...

Thats amazing, I thought the grip looked like it was cast from the real thing.

Aw man. This is shaping up to be one of the best scratch-builds I've seen. While waiting for your pics to load I read on and was picturing something a little cheesy, but you have done a fantastic job.

Got the mag well and the clip done...

It's really not that bad. If you take your time and cut very straight lines with a very sharp knife, you end up with a scratchbuild that rivals the real thing (minus the eagle unless you're a good engraver :) )

I wish I still had the pictures of the Hengstler I built off those plans a few years ago...I was awfully impressed with myself when it was done. :D

Your E-11 looks fantastic. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Well, Pilot was right about the Hengstler.... :love

A couple of the screws are the wrong kind, I looked all over the house and couldn't find any older type slotted screws to save my life... :lol

Holy Crap...I was thinking the same thing...I thought it was cast from a real grip,,,,, nice work on the rifle so far......I sale resin cast E-11 rifles and I have molds for all the parts so if you run into some parts that you dont want to scratch build shoot me an e-mail cw2908@aol.com
