Playmates phaser already pimped... what about the tricorder?

Just wondering if anybody had any plans to mod their playmates trek xi tricorders? I wasn't a fan until I saw one in person... smaller than I thought. And shiny too. Thinking about picking me up one and taking some SERIOUS artistic liberties with it. Anybody else?

nobody? Well... I guess this can soon be turned into my WIP thread. I'm gonna go pick up the tric and phaser tomorrow after work. I thought for sure someone would've started to mod this by now!

The tricorder seems very easy to modd, just sand, bondo and paint, think I might attempt it also, but make sure to take the "tricorder" sticker off and save it, cause it wont be screen accurate without it lol

sticker nothing!!! Would small metallic letters stick okay? I'm not concerned with screen accurate anyway since we see the stupid thing for all of 30 seconds. I just think it's a neat toy and deserves a little prop treatment! I've got some neat ideas for the sensor array... I wonder how hard THAT sticker will be to remove!

I have two of them and the sticker on one of mine was already coming off, it was easy to pull off, I just wish we could get some shots of the prop other than whats in the movie, i'm going to the archlight tomm where the props are displayed, maybe I can pursuade someone to open the case and let me take pics!

Can anyone recreate the Sticker? I am thinking of doing a simple LED ST:NG like sequence (provided my Life is not so busy, that is) and this would mean, careless ol' me would kill the sticker in the process.

Oh that would be sweet!!!!!!! let me know if you get someone on their good side! I just hope it's not as much of a dissapointment as the inside of the Kelvin comm. I was really hoping for that one to be cool!

I was thinking much the same thing only I was holding off to see if any decent photos of the hero prop display screen (if it even had one) surfaced first.
I am also thinking of using electoluminescent back lighting from either a cheap digital clock or from Allelectronics (http://www.allelectronics.com/index.php?page=search&search_query=glow) placed behind a reverse transparency copied from the toy screen decal.

EL sheet can be had in many colors as well as transparent overlays on white. The colored sheets are not as bright or as flexible as white EL sheet.

Actually I planned to modify the new movie tricorder with a new Steam Punk motif.

I'm not thrilled with the new film, and the new tricorder design really isn't anything that inspires me, but I bought one because it has flashy-blinky-ness. So a few add-on panels, paint, some filigree, new button covers, some laser-engraved detail plates, and soon I'll have a convenient cosplay item that exudes Steam-y Goodness!

Here are some more pics, hope they help:

No way. Those Kelvin comms look like they fell out of the AMT Exploration Set model kit.

They definitely could use a little pimping up, but overall I like their design a lot better. They're alot more an homage to the TOS and STIV Comms.

Definitely... thanks for the pics silver! And I'm with you guys on the Kelvin comm... I like it better... only, the shots I saw of it open showed it with a brass grid like the lids to the TOS comms... I wonder what's up with that one! Weird thing is I could swear the pics came from the same place! I'll try to dig one up.
Also... does this mean you made it to the exhibit silver? But I guess nobody would open the tric for you huh? And that color!!! SHEESH! :lol I'm going to repaint mine but I think I'm going to go for an "as seen on tv" color ya know? I was thinking a nice charcoal metallic!
Thanks again for the extra pics!

I did just notice 2 things about the tric.
1) Anybody wanting to Screen Accurize their playmates can leave the battery
compartment as is just by filling the screw holes and using magnets instead.
2) The part on the front that has the speaker in the toy version, seems to
have an emblem on it. Can anybody tell what that is? Doesn't look
starfleet to me.
