Plastic Succulents

Hi, I bought some faux succulents for a project but I was disappointed to find that, despite the description and picture, these are obviously plastic and do not look real. I was going to chuck them but I wondered if anyone knows if it would be possible to age or distress them to make them a bit more realistic. Otherwise, its the bin.

These are the 2 worst. They both measure about 70mm in diameter.

Succulents are small plants with swollen leaves, pads or stems - they are indoor plants but often found in rockeries. Plastic succulents are .... well erm, plastic - i.e. not real.

We have some real succulents growing that are similar. The one on the left can benefit from a matte spray, but the one on the right may need to be repainted. Personally, I would just buy a real succulent and then you wouldn't have to worry much about repainting it. Just water it once per week and you will get a very realistic appearance.

Yeah, is there a reason they have to be fake? You could try repainting them, but real ones would just be easier.

I would clean up the flash, go with a matte base to kill the shine, heavy wash to bring out the detail between the leaves, and then a fair bit of airbrushing to make a much more prominent color shift around the tips/edges of the leaves. Many succulents also have a white, powdery look to them as well, so I would probably do a very light dusting of white from several inches away before the color shift.
