Planet of the Apes TV Series - data disk - found object?

Gone but not forgotten.
So, for some strange reason I have been going Ape as of late. it happens, you rediscover a movie again and before you know it it's all you're watching for the next few weeks - well, Planet of the Apes has been just what the doctor ordered lately. I devoured the movies, conquest still being my least favorite -- only beating the mess that Tim Burton's made with Mary Mark - and yeah, I tried to watch it again. Anyhow, my tv series disks landed on my doorstep and i hadn't seen any of those episodes sine i was a kid and you know what -- I like it. Not as good as the movies but they are a fun way to spend the afternoon with my kids. On the show, the two astronaughts are in search of other humans that may be able to read the data disk from their ship and tell them exactly what happened and if they can replicate it to go back home.

the disk is a small round metallic puck with a small black "washer" in the center - it looks like it might be a machine part - I'm hoping someone here may be able to identify it for me. Here it is -

From that view, it looks a lot like a Kodak filter step-up ring from the 50's. No picture at hand at the moment, but lots of them usually on the 'Bay.

I took a look at the Kodak Step up filter rings, which are close in size (probably about 2" in diameter and around 3/8" thick), but they have lettering all along the width,
which is an interesting detail, but it's not on this prop.
Also, the step up filter rings have a large hole in the center of them and this prop has three small holes which seem to go all the way through the aluminum.

I'd like to say that it's a part from a film projector, but since there aren't any markings on it, it could be some thing that was quickly machined. It's a very simple machining job
which may have been done to avoid using any thing that would have been recognized or had any kind of markings on it.
