Piece of Acrylic Rod?

I am working on my new Sonic Screwdriver and am in need of an acrylic rod that is a 1/2 inch in diameter. I have the body and emitter section all ready to go, but no rod to attach it together with.

This version is about a 1/16 of an inch over the 5.75 inches. I probably won't be able to make it slide though, just pull it out. I am thinking about shaping the end of the rod to make the ball joint shape, but am not sure how I will go about it.

If anyone can help, let me know.

Have you already checked around at any local stores? I know that the Ace Hardware right by me carries a lot of balsa wood, bass wood and acrylic rod and tube.
