Peanuts (Charlie Brown, Snoopy) - any collectors here?

Not strictly a movie, I guess, but I'm interested to see if there are any Peanuts cartoon collectors/fans here?

I have no idea what's out there, but I love watching the cartoons with my kids and would like to pick a couple of things up for them.

I used to have darn near every book printed. Saw the original Snoopy and his different nose changes. As I recall Snoopy was originally going to be named "Sniffy" but another cartoon dog had that name.

Found an ancient Lucy doll in the woods behind the house in New Jersey that dated back to the '50's or '60's.

At a convention I went to back in the '80's there was a guy dressed in a really good costume of the Master from Dr. Who(the master as he appeared in the Tom Baker era) who was playing the Linus and Lucy music on the hotel piano. It was too funny to see such someone potraying someone so evil and hearing music associated with such an innocent cartoon.

As a kid i loved the books, the tv series, even the cartoons in the paper. Still makes me smile now, and really thats what its about, is'nt it?

I spent the last year or so hunting down Peanuts books, video, and memorabilia for a potential girlfriend. I thought we could at least be good friends, but she did not agree. Oh well... But I did find a suprising amount of material. If you check Walmart, I believe they have two sets of DVDs, each containing the complete broadcast material from the 60s and 70s respectively, for about $15-20.

have many of the original posters , books and some of the sculptures that have come out over the years. Many years ago Charles Schultz signed a strip i sent him as well.

there's a lot of older items out from Knickerbocker and other companies as well.

I have the pelham puppets snoopy and charlie Brown, very cool they are too ; )

They crop up on ebay quite often.

Danbury mint made a few lighted dioramas.
This is one we put out every year, picture doesn't do it justice though.
It's pretty spooky at night.

I also forgot about all the " Pumpkin" figures that have been out for several years at TRU. I bought the first series and stopped after

I lOVE the Peanuts. Charles Schulz was one of my childhood heros and inspiration in the arts. I collect all the books. I also have a few original posters from the television specials put away.

Yep, love animation and grew up on the Peanuts specials. My den is mainly Pixar but has quite a bit of the Peanuts characters.

Al Elliot, pm me. :)

When Schulz decided to retire, he drew enough strips to fulfill his contract and then that was it.

He died the day the last strip was printed.

That's one of the those creepy things I don't like to think about.

Space Snoopy! That's the one item I would want to collect but I just haven't motivated myself to do it yet. :unsure

Otherwise tho, love the strip, especially in the 50s thru the late 60s period. I have several of the fantastic Dark Horse "Complete Peanuts" compendiums. Don't try to get them all tho because they're publishing about 25 books over a period of 12 years... and each one lists for around $30! :lol

Other than the Space Snoopy, there have been some awesome action figures that have come out in recent years, which really captured the characters. In fact these new Craig Yoe tinned "Syroco" figures, which are of the initial 50s appearance of the characters, just might be a must get!

Kind of lost interest when Peppermint Patty and Woodstock showed up. :unsure

But still a great strip! :D

Yep! Well you know Peanuts was so popular at NASA, the spacecraft for Apollo 10 were named "Charlie Brown" and "Snoopy"!

I cannot imagine why they would name a manned spacecraft after the biggest loser in comic strips, but I guess they weren't superstitious. Why not go all out and call the Command Module "Titanic" and the Lunar Module "Marie Celeste". :lol

Here is my Snoopy from waay back.. I got this as a present about thirty years ago... I still remember the games I had with it when I was a pup myself.. I really was astonished to find out that my mother had not gotten rid of it through the years, but kept it for me, 'for the right time'...
I absolutely LOVE it, though much of the love is from my childhood memories, but also, as I read the Peanut today, and, nearly everyday that is, I find that I like the most the stories when Snoopy lives his life as a WW1 fighter pilot... My favorite Finnish Peanuts album being 'Snoopy and the Red Baron'
By the way, Snoopy is called RESSU in Finland. The Peanuts are Tenavat. (Ressu is a common name for a dog, well, it was when the Peanuts were unleashed to Finland. Tenavat means much the same as Peanuts, kids with another name..
To my luck, my Snoopy comes with the flight hat, in leather outer, but some fabric interior. I have not dared to try to fasten the buckle on the head strap, for the fear of it breaking due to the age. It has the (C) United Feature Syndicate INC. 1966. Made in Hong Kong stamped on the bottom of his belly, and the same without the 'Made in Hong Kong' stuff on the left leg.
To say the least, I must have been a happy kid back then, but now, you can only guess.. This will be with me a great long time....
Cheers, Ville.

you can always try Knotts Berry Farm for items

the theme park based on the Peanuts Crew.....It was a popular place back in the day, now it isnt the best place to go...It use to be tough competition to disney back in the day, now it doesnt come even close

My friend Ed and I built Lucy's Psychiatric booth in full scale. He did the planning and construction and I did the graphics. It collapses down flat for convenient storage. That's him sitting behind it. We work at a National Guard Museum and its part of the Museum's booth at the Adjutant General's Holiday Party (theme: Charlie Brown Christmas).
