Peacemaker revolver customization ideas?

Hey guys. I recently bought a denix peacemaker (at least, i think that its a peacemaker) non-firing replica off of craiglist for $25. I like how it looks, but obviously, I would like to customize it anyway. Im thinking about replacing the grip. Anyone have any ideas on how I should customize it? Heres a pic.

Custom grips would be the most obvious, assuming that it's the same dimensions and measurements as an actual Colt (most grips online are custom-fit to the specific model of gun).

About the rest of the gun.. the metal's a bit on the cheap side (I've got a Denix downstairs, although I couldn't tell you what it's supposed to be.. it was sold to me as a 1851 Navy, but that's definitely not what it is, might be a Dragoon, but I'm not sure about the size). I don't know how much luck you'd have getting it plated, polished, or engraved.

If you can get it refinished in blued steel (or something similar), you could go for the "Hand of God" from 3:10 to Yuma. It's the right model, and you can get the grips online.

Correction: apparently it is an 1873 peacmaker model. Never heard of 3:10 to yuma, but ill look it up on IMFDB. I don't really have much money to spend on getting it engraved, ploished, or plated though.

man, just saw the hand of god gun you were talking about. That looks almost exactly like the one i just got! not sure where to get it blued, and of course i need to see the movie first, but i might just make the hand of god! :)

ok, being a fan of the Remington 1875, has anyonyt thought to try and add the underbarrel piece to a colt replica? either that or does anyone know of a decent replcia of the remington? I have been thinking that a mod to the shell ejector and then adding the underbarrel piece will make it look close enough

Opinions?

Removing the grips on a denix is a huge pain in the rump. Fair warning. I'm not the only one here who has done it, and it sucks. Fair warning. What looks like a screw, it's not a screw.

I've considered customizing my denix revolvers a few time. I was going to add a rail to the top and mount a red dot on top, and add a lanyard ring to the grip, and mount a flash hider on the muzzle. I still may once the new shop is setup!

Thanks for the ideas guys! Noeland, are the grips attached with those annoying clip on things then? And do you have any idea on getting the fake screws out without damaging the wood?

Thanks! I took a look at that thread, and it answered a lot of questions, but I am still not sure if I should blue the metal or if I should paint it. I'd still like to keep the original wooden grips intact, just in case something happens to the other grips if I get them. How did you manage to get the "screws" out of the grip?

I belong to that club, and totally agree...

Now im thinking that I will not need to remove the original grip and I can just inlay crosses into the wood. I already got some tips from JohnsonArms, does anybody else have any experience in this?

Oh, and i might not blue the steel anymore, but might just paint it. Only disadvantage to painting it is that it doesn't give the same "cold steel" feel.;)

just painted the barrel and cylinder. looks good so far, but is too glossy. anyone have any idea on how to fix that?
