Patlabor...anyone?

I know Gundam is wildly popular, but I have a special fondness for the Patlabor tv series and movies. I guess I like the 'real worldiness' of the mech design. I scratch built this model about ten years ago when word was going around that James Cameron was expressing interest in Patlabor. This 1/24 scale model is of a United Nations labor as seen in the second film. I believe its called a TYPE97 Hannibal.

Hey that's fantastic. :D

Kind of reminds me a little of the Votoms "Scopedog", which has a 1/12 figure out that's of similar size.

I am still new to Gundams and not very familiar about the other series. I believe I built some Patlabors before, can't remember which model tho.

But hey, you scratch built there is pretty sweet.

:eek Awesome. I have seen the Type zero vinyl kit in 1/24 scale and i know of some other like the Ingram, but I have never seen yours before. Is it all from scratch or made to be a kit?

Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous. A nice nod to those of us who are a little "old school" in our anime tastes...forget this new nonsense, give me Macross, Patlabor and Urusei Yatsura any day...:)

Dude... :eek Thats fricken sweet. The Hannibal is one of my favorite of the labor designs and I gotta say that you nailed it. I know you said that you built it ten years ago, but I don't suppose it could fall into a vat of rubber at any time? ;) Any thought of doing the Radha as a companion piece?

I like the more realistic feel of Patlabor too. How did you scratch make this?

wow, fond memories of old school mechas. now when you say "scratch built" are we talking completely custom fab'ed pieces or kit bashing? or a mix of both? either way, awesome piece.

Thanks for the compliments guys, and its a nice surprise to know that so many of you are also Patlabor fans. Yes, the model is completely scratch. The body is all styrene with some metal detail parts and electronics. Under it all is a bass wood armature with yinyl backed paper covering the leg and arm joints. The 'groin' plate is the on-off switch for the lights. I had once considered re-working it and molding/casting it to go along with the two other Patlabor characters that the resin kit company VOLKS had already put out in 1/24 scale, but there just didnt seem to be a market for such a large and definately expensive model. Was I wrong?
