Parchment Narnia Map (tripoli's run)

My parchment Narnia map from the run that tripoli did. It's pretty much finished. I may go back and weather it a bit more, pull a bit more of the print off. Now I've got to figure out what to do with the Middle Earth map...

If you've got your maps done, feel free to post the pics here as well!

That looks good.

As someone who will soon be doing his LOTR map, what were your techniques?

I've weathered maps before. I had a fun time doing the Goonies map I gave my sister. I think I used matches, acrylic paint, and tea for it.

I think did a little superfluous aging, some of my "techniques" were pretty pointless in the end. I first put down a 'base coat' with tea, to tint the whole map. Then i swirled some thick coffee sludge on a couple of large areas on the back of the map. I let that dry, wiped off the dried coffee grounds and applied a coating of strong coffee to the back and then to the front. The black was picked off by applying the iron directly, briefly, to the print. I may do a bit more of that, but i do prefer the subtlety.

Based on how well it came out, I wouldn't say that any of the weathering was superflous :thumbsup

I have aged mine in the same way for my first attempt on these.

The second time, I used colored pencil to carefully shade and fill in the area just like the original map, right down to the exact coloring of each and every tree. I did some rub downs on the larger areas and shaded areas such as the Narnia box and ocean area. I then aged it with a diluted coffee mix with also darkened the coloring beautifully. If some one can host a large file or two, happy to post how it came out.

I have been getting quite a few pms. so just to note:
Sorry to say that I do not have any more LoTR maps available, not even for myself. Since the printer has backed away from doing any more of these, at this time, what has been sold is it. I hope to find another printer that can do these in the future.

I had been thinking of going back in and taking colored pencils to the narnia map as well, maybe. i just know that if i keep futzing with it something going to happen that i won't like...

and if you look extra closely, you can just see the bottom of the Polyjuice potion page in the top picture, right above the map!
