Painting Trooper armor??

While I've got plenty of experience painting lots of props, I've never painted Trooper armor. I've had Sandy's and Stormy's, but they are ABS and only needed weathering down...not painting up.

My Snowy is styrene and I want to paint it. I was just wondering if you TK guys with Stormtrooper armor prime with grey or a flat white prior to your final gloss coat?? I know some start with khaki :p .....that's not the route I'm going for though....................

Any preference on spray paints in rattle cans?

I thought about giving it a nice sanding with some 400-600 grit sandpaper and just going at it with two coats of gloss white from Rustoleum. It will need to be weathered anyhow, but I still want a nice topcoat.

Thanks for any tips :thumbsup

Regular Krylon Fusion Gloss White or the Rustoleum Gloss White, SKU# 7592 (in the tall silver can) will do just fine.

I painted my first TE suit in 2005 with SKU# 7592 and it still looks fantastic to this day after numerous troops. My TE Sandtrooper I used the Krylon Fusion on and my ESB TE2 helmet, and it looks fantastic. No priming needed for either paint.

The Fusion works great, just do thin coats. I did a few heavy coats, then needed to do a few touch ups a few days later and it started to crack on me. I've had absolutely NO problems with chipping or peeling in about 2 years.

An old thread back from the dead! :lol

I want to use a MR helmet in a 1:1 stormtrooper display.

My guess is the armor I buy won't match the color of the helmet so I'll have to paint it.

Any tips?

thanks!
