Paint question

Hi guys/gals,

I have just put on the first coat of paint/spray on my project, how long should I wait before masking on that paint to finish the other part of the project?

Anyone? want to get this project finished as quick as i can, just want to know whether its minutes, hours or days........

Usually paint takes about 24 to 48 hours to gas out.
Also depends on the type of paint.

If it's inside and warm I'd say 24 hours should be fine. What kind of paint?

Thanks for your replies, i used a car spray paint purchased from halfords car shop. So you reckon at least 24hrs before masking it up?

Is it actual automotive quality paint? I paint cars for a living so I can help if I know what kind of paint it is? Is a base coat clear coat system? Acrylic urethane? Alkyd enamel? It makes a huge difference in dry times. If it's a BCC system then 1hr would be way more than enough to mask, if Urethane it would be at least 16hrs if alkyd it would be at least 24 hours.

Hi finhead, on the spray tin it says it's a advanced acrylic based formula.

Does it need a hardener or is it just reduced down 50%? Does it dry flat or gloss? A link to they type of paint might help as well since your on the other side of the planet. PM me if you'd like

i use spray paint and it dries in 5 min, then its ready for another coat
