paint peeling WTF?

Ok Ive had my suit "done" since last thurs, as i had to wear it in the haunted house fri ,sat and sun. After each night the damn paint started peeling off from my forearms. By the time sunday rolled around I had paint peeling from forearms, underarms, top of shoulders, basically here and there. I did what i was told and applied the latex over the muscle suit, i did hafta tint the latex as my muscle suit was red, then when dry applied pro-adhesive, and even added p-a to my paint while painting each and every coat. There was no shortage of p-a in any of my painting steps, i almost went through a 16 oz bottle of it just for the suit. Then after all the paint i of course applied perma wet. Did i use to much pro-adhesive? Is that even possible? After the perma wet application are you supposed to baby powder the suit? WTF is goin on here, why is my pant peeling? please help-thanx-Joe

What brand of latex paint did you use to paint the suit? This may be the source of the problem. Golden and Liquitex work great the acrylic paints like Folk Art, Anita's, Dermacoat, And Appple Barrell may not work as wel. Thse 4 types could be less flexible and cause the cracking. I would use Golden or Liquitex and put down some Pro Adhesive first then the paint . Optionally you can mix the Pro Adhesive and paint and seal with Perma Wet. Hope this helps you.

is it only peeling in those spots? sounds like wear marks from armor, moving around, etc. It does sound like you did everything correctly as far as painting it though.

i used liquitex paints from Michales, and also used bombay inks in spots and also a mix of the two. However, no matter what i used i still put in a mix of pro-adhesive, and as a result had to clean my airbrush quite frequently. I would hafta agree with Sea on the armor wear spots, as some spots i can clearly see as, wear, being the factor, however on my forearms i had no armor, didnt need it for the show. There were a couple of spots that even the netting didnt touch, and no movement happened that the paint looks like it bubbled. Dirty fingers perhaps? I dunno, i tried somthing diff last night, when i got done repairing i applied a thinned down latex mix over the paint, maybe that will keep it on? I dunno, gotta costume contest tonite and after that nuttin but 11 more months to repair. thanx for the input so far--joe

i have the same prob.i used the exact formula on dbs' suit and it has flex/give.use it on seahunters and it cracks and lifts?i spoke w/dan tonight and he said some rubber just wont let paint adhere.this is bad as 4 all the work i put in to genes top is slowly cracking and peeling w/out even really getting to wear it.oh well,i'll try again.

I have heard of the pax coat actually lifting and not adhereing to latex well . It's one reason I don't use pax for a base coat. I simply do a latex/acrylic mix thinned down with distilled water. This could be the problem.

This is common with most suit and paint jobs. The armor rubbing and stress areas usually are the main areas that get affected.
1. How well did you prep the surface before painting? I use a cleaner to clean the latex of all impurities. (baby powder, hand oils, and dust)
2. Latex Base I find need to be heat treated. I set mine in the hot sun for an hour or use a heat gun. (don’t melt or burn it)
3. You can use Plasti Dip Clear in stress and wear areas to help protect it.
4. Cloth body suits need to be fully stretched before painting.
5. No matter how hard you try you will always get a few wear areas.
