Padding Armor

I'm in the process of making an Armored back plate for a costume I'm doing. What kind of padding can I use to make sure the bolts and screws I'm using to hold some hobby boxes and some other things in place Don't rub my back or sides. I decided not to use glue due to the nature of the enviroment I will be wearing this in. I bought some weather stripping today from the hardware store and I was wondering would that be enough?

I've had success with the solid (not hollow) rectangular trunk weather stripping for that sort of thing. It holds up rather well as long as the screw heads or anything else its against isn't sharp & free to vibrate/rub to shred it. The weatherstriping is nice if you want to run the strip so it pads all the way across the piece, but not fully cover it (which would result in reducing air circulation/increasing heat retention)

If your wanting spot coverage just over screw heads, the adhesive backed felt (precut circles or the large cut to size pads) for chair/furniture legs can be a cheap way to go too. The craft foam pads, leather scraps, or a piece of nylon webbing superglued can work too. And don't forget about just the fuzzy side of the adhesive backed industrial strength velcro.
