HI All,

P1
My folks bought me a P1 Bio whilst they were up in Yorkshire just before Nov. They wouldn't say or show me what it was or what Bio they got me as they did't know one bio from another. All they told me was it was cheep and I would have to wait until Xmas. so here it is. I have no clue of its origins it's 21"  measured form middle of fins to chin over the outside of it following the contours. Widest part across the fins inside is 11.5" and across the cheeks is 8.5". As always I'll fettle. Needs a new tri laser. Luckily I have one left over from Don jar I bought a while back when I did my one.
All in all as a free bio its immense, feels good to get back painting another P1

P2
A great Xmas purchase from flee bay. Got it for a steel. Always wanted a P2 and although its not a full size 1:1 its wicked nun the less. Already I've cut out the eyes, and across the bridge of the nose to make a little more closer to the film one. It already had a base coat of gold rub or a light spray of gold. I drilled out the laser holes and added the holes either side to again make closer t the film. So a quick soak in hot soapy water then PAINTING !!!I used ll manor of Coppers, Golds, Bronze, Gunmetal, Forest Green and Green Bronze for the Patina. Mesh, led's and battery pack are on its way to me now from china, Cheep as chips.
I'm really happy with my first paint attempt on a P2 and I think its turned out OK?

All feedback welcome and if anyone can shed any light on the origin of the P1 let me know?

Much improved with the paintup. You nailed the shading. It emphasizes the nice, organic look of the P2 mask.
Removing the eyes also made a huge difference.

The Xmas P1.

As I can't be sure where this mask has come from caster and origin wise I have a plan to make this Bio Into something fantastic and make it my own interpretation.

Forgive me if I understand the rules incorrectly and please correct me if I am wrong. The rules beingThat I can reshape a bio as long it looks nothin like the original? Being as I don't know the origins and don't want to be tarred with the recaster's brush is it ok to use this as a basis for something greater?

If yes to all the above.........

.........the plan is to attempt a Steve Hird Celtic, please let me know if its Ok to do this as I will only be scuplting my own interpretation of a Celtic bio using Steve's method. I won't be copying his bio, just his way of thinking?

Please can you all let me know if I can go ahead ?

I have confirmed with a few Buddies on the Lair that it is a full scale 1/1 Bio, this making a fantastic start to something better.

As there always has been zero tolerance on recasting, I suggest exhausting every avenue to find out if that P1 is someone's sculpt.
You can then get the appropriate permission and proceed with next steps.

the P1 it's a porsche bio . not sure if it's a recast or not. most recasted porsches have the temple hose conectors and cheek hose port cast with the bio as opposed to seprate pieces when you get them from paul francis. hope this helps

That's what I'm trying to do buddy, before I go jumoing into the build. Any ideas on how to go finding out its origins?

Even If I can't find out, all I know is it was purchased fromYorkshire somewhere. Who makes masks up in that neck of the woods. That may help narrow it down.

Anyone shed any light?

The tri laser parts was a bit melted and looks like it was cast like that, i've trimmed tht back already. The slug looks like it was glued on as it has a groove around at least 60% of it. And the check port looks like its been glued on as we'll.

I'll get some pics in a min

Here are some pic's let me know if anyone needs anymore to help me find the origins?

I'm gonna contact paul@lucasfrancisstudio.com.

Recasting is relevant if you plan on making copies of it to sell AFTER you have converted it.

If this is JUST a 1 off for you, then you can do what you want with the bio.

Paul Francis is a ********/******* and many other things, including the very thing he cries about ALOT,  HOWEVER if he does not give his permission to use as a base to then sell, then you can not make copies sir.

Looks to me like that is a recast of Paul's Porsche.  Compared to mine, it's not nearly as clean, and doesn't have the clean, sharp lines that the original has.  Also, the measurements are different (smaller).  I can tell you this, if he knows your from the lair there's no way he's gonna give you permission (don't ask me how I know, I don't want to start a riot  ).

Realistically if you were to use the Porsche as a base and make is completely different than the Porsche design, no one would ever know.  It's been done time and time again.  As long as you don't make the Bio similar in any shape or form, it really doesn't matter what you use as an armature or base.  Nor is it considered recasting when your creation is significantly different.

However, if you want to avoid using Paul Francis' poor version of a Bio as a base and all the grey area ******** around recasting, then just get some wire and plaster and make your own.  It's not hard.  Here's one I did as an example:

I've taken on board all comments, Does anyone have the dimensions of a real Porsche Bio?

Just thinking if its wildly larger or smaller surely this can't be Paul's work and I could use it? Just wanting to be absolutely sure it is Paul's work.

Failing that and if it is Paul's work does anyone have a miscast or a cheep bio I can use as a base for my Celtic sculpt, I would also need permission to cast my sculpt from the bio's seller/originator?

Or if I'm correct. I could use this warped mishapen bio and do my sculpt as long as I don't want to then cast and sell them?

I just want to be clear?

If you look at the comment above you, there's a reaaaaallly cheap Bio you could use as a base for your sculpt!
