Oz The Great and Powerful (Post-release)

There will be Rubby slippers..just not as you think they will be. Someone is gonna be rocking a pair of Ruby shoes. They didnt fight over them in the Wizard of Oz casue of the fashion statement. They hold some power that is very much in demeand

Yeah they come off the wicked witch of the east in the original so I imagine she will be in this film.

It looks promising. I will give this one a chance.

My one complaint is the stupid prophecy thing. Is there anyway to have the whole overused prophecy theme banned from ever being used again? Pretty please...

I'm actually not a terribly big fan of the original and the trailer made me want to see the film. Guess we will have to wait and see how it is.

Not opposed to an Oz movie in principle but boy was the trailer disappointing. Too gothic: loads of 'dark'-looking types that looked like they'd wandered out of a Tim Burton movie. All the usual cgi cliches present YET AGAIN: things flying too fast straight into the lens with the same old WHOOSH sound effect... The twister looked adequate, but no twister shot in this trailer took my breath away like the locked-off twister-in-the-distance shots in the original did when I re-watched it recently. The only thing that stood out and caught my interest was that small doll character.

Thus ends my review of this trailer (that's TRAILER, not FILM).

I'm still not completely seeing the Burton-esque things that a lot of folks are seeing. ...and well, how do you make a modern Oz type film without people comparing it to Burton?

I don't see Bruce Campbell's name on the list of even uncredited parts in this film. Raimi was a good choice for this in my opinion. I love the look and feel of this movie. Can't wait for the animated Dorothy of Oz as well.

Bruce Campbell is in the movie, he's under some make up, but if you recognize his voice and style of line delivery, you will pick him right away. There is also a fright scene towards the end which is lifted from Army of Darkness, so I thought that was a cool reference.

The China Girl is just about the best character in the movie as well and unbelievably adorable.

I wasn't so sure about having a final battle in the land of oz, but the way they do it and using what we know about the wizard in the 39 movie, it is quite clever.

Mila Kunis though, her performance is fairly questionable and probably the weak link in what I would call an otherwise great movie.

I recently started the books (all 14 from kindle for $0.99), after only seeing the '39 film when I was a kid. I had always thought the transition from the sepia tone to color was just a gimmick to show off the color technology, but after reading the 1st book, I was amazed at how Baum went out of his way to 'write' Kansas as black, white, & grays. Oz is contrasted with descriptions of color & vibrancy. It'd be hard to see how they could stay true to the spirit of the books & leave that out.

So have any pics of the Wicked Witch of the West surfaced yet? Does Disney havee that tight of a grip on leaks?

Hmm. I'm going to havevto check this one out. Flying monkees terrify me though.

Really?

Interestingly enough, this is the shirt I'm wearing today.

Bruce Campbell is now part of The Land of Oz. I just want people to sit down and think about this.

Just got home from the midnight showing. This movie was absolutely breathtaking and very heart warming.
