hi guys i just got a oxyr predator mask 'do it yourself' mask from oxygen labs.de and was wondering how i can get it to hold its shape as its very flexible latex :/ and i haven't got any soft foam either

that really looks flimsy must be a really thin cast.you could use expanding foam it comes in a can its used in the building trade for filling round windows its cheap and can be got at any hardware store also if you go to youtube and search for stiltbeast studios channel theres a tutorial of a cheap way of foaming masks to make them stiffer using layers of masking tape and gorilla glue hope this helps

what shall i do because i havnt got the money to buy 2 part soft foam. i was thinking of an under-skull but i haven't got any resin or fiberglass and it wont support itself enough for me to do it. help!!

isn't it a bit thin to use soft expanding foam as it will distort and i would like to make it open and close its jaws but for that i need an under-skull and a member on the lair said he could do it but it would cost 350 dollars of which i cant afford :/
thanks
dan

You cannot foam a mask properly without the mother mold it came from, the expanding foam will continue to expand and distort even a thicker well cast mask. Try  using fiberfill it's the stuff they fill pillows and stuffed animals with. Put it in slowly, piece by piece until the mask is full and not bulging out  distorting any areas. This method will allow you to display the mask, not wear it. I hope this helps.

thanks for the help only problem is i would like to wear it :/
p.s. this was the mask i was talking to you about :)

guys, i have to disagree re the expanding foam it can be used.. but with caution,

I have done it on 2 masks without any issue, one was my personal one for flesh hunter,  it was done in small layers bit by bit just in the crown area.. i held the mask upside down which allowed it to hold its natural shape..  again it was done in very small layers.. after it had set i put upholstrey foam in..

It has to be said tho if you get it wrong, say goodbye to the mask, so only attempt if your confident in doing it..

I agree with Colm.  If I were doing it I would cut upholstery foam to fit and place it in the mask.  You would still be able to wear it, just pad it out around your head.  I tried foaming a thick cast mask outside the mold (2 part polf foam) and ended up tearing it out due to the distortion.

Brian

P.S.  Colm posted while I was replying.  I was able to remove the poly foam without any damage being done (mine was a properly poured thick mask), but he's right...go slow and take it easy or you'll end up with a big waste of time and bigger mess.  YMMV

Dan if your in doubt, another method i used on one of the first masks i had was to get a cheap camping matt, cut some egg shaped pieces  to fit into the crown they will give you initial support, after that pick up some upholstery foam again very cheap and cut out some pieces and fit them in..

it would cost you less than sending it to someone and paying them to do it.

how would i insert it into the mask/ dome while keeping its shape... could someone show me some pics on how to do it
thanx
dan

Send it back. It's extremely thin.the only way to properly foam it would be extremely small pours. Brushing it up. You almost need the foam to collapse on itself so it won't distort. Sure Jam foam up there.. But what a pain in the ass. The product sent to you doesn't lend to foaming well... So they shouldn't try and call it a kit.

i have tryed to send it back with no luck he said i knew what i was buying even though it did not say it was thin and flexible and it showed apic of a foam filled one saying this is what you get... stay away from oxyr (oxygen-labs.de) they rip u off.
i dont know what i am going to do i guess i could try and make an underskull or use upholstery foam to make it hold its shape :/
what a day lol
thanks
dan

to make an adequate underskull you would need the positive ( the actual sculptutre to build whats called an animatronic core) If your intent was to make an mandible system ..your approach would already be off with this mask. The expression is already frozen in an "out" position ..it should be in a neutral position ( especially if its in latex).

I hate to burst your bubble bro, but it would have been soooo much easier if you had researched this more ..asked more questions ( even about this specific mask) before spending any money

You can attempt to throw upholstery foam in it ..but if your intent is to wear it ..good luck around the face ..you'll start to sweat ..and then all that moisture will go right to the foam ..it will be the equivalent of having a wet sponge in the face ..it will be annoying ..will droop and may weaken whatever you use to adhere the foam with .

If you absolutely know what you are doing with polyfoam ..and you very gingerly paint it into the face ..knowing exactly when to stop touching it, you may get it to conform to the inner face without distorting ..these will have to be very small pours.

Have been trying to look at their offical site, however says it is offline, was very curious to see what they were promoting for sale ie your mask and what you received.

Hope you manage to salvage the mask.

Sean

All I can say is whoa!  I've honestly never seen one so thin that it drapes like cloth.  I can only hope this was via paypal and within the allotted 45 days.  If you make your case you may get some of your money back.  I would definitely point out that it is unwearable in it's current state.  Hope you get this resolved somehow.

Weren't these the same guys that were peddling their Bio's and Masks on here but got in trouble somehow for it?

I agree though, you really should have done some research into what it was you were looking for. Always, ALWAYS research before purchasing. Who knows, you could have bought a better product here from on of the "trusted" sellers.

Good luck with your voyage.
