CCG members helped with a little press promotion this past Wednesday and helped with an opening party last Thursday night. The museum staff was very appreciative and supportive of our efforts.

Press efforts around the state capitol area. The museum organizers even got us into Gov. Schwarzenegger cabinet office to take a picture with his Conan sword.

Here is a little video about the exhibit by a local NBC affiliate.

Here is some stuff at the opening party which was themed out like the cantina from SW: ANH and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Ez,
Thanks for posting. :thumbsup

Jason,
Thanks so much for posting pics of that headpiece. I've been waiting for pics like that to surface. I'm quite surprised it took this long for proper pics to be taken.

Now that I've had time to compare it against what we've already seen I notice it's the first headpiece that Profiles had up for auction a couple of years ago. So, either LFL purchased the piece back or it was donated to the museum for the exhibit by the current owner. Any idea which is correct?

The whip is also questionable as it is pretty light in color. Air and sunlight over time usually makes the leather darken up unless it's been bagged up and out of sunlight since 1988. Even then the whip would require a considerable amount of care so that it wouldn't dry out. If left alone it will eventually begin to show signs of cracking and may even break in spots if unravelled after sitting for long lengths of time with no up-keep. So, if it is the real deal then somebody took great care of it. Take a look at this pic of the whip from the Chicago exhibit in 2004.

Notice how much darker the whip is? The very dark spots are most likely bruising from being hit or dropped. Since the outer layer of the whip is made of skin, it bruises much like our skin when hit hard. This one very well may have been a stunt whip since it's so banged up.
The overall color in the Chicago pic is much darker than the one in the OOTW exhibit pics you posted and is consistant with how whips darken naturally over time. Although I can't be sure where the Chicago whip was in the archives, boxed up or not, I do know that many of the whips sat out on open shelves for years. It is certainly possible that the whip from the OOTW exhibit was made for the production and either never used or used lightly, then taken off the set and put in a bag and in a box or drawer and only taken out for proper care only. Still, with the use of any number of leather conditioners needed to keep the whip in good condition I'd expect to see it a little darker from consistant applications. To me it looks too new, but you may know a bit more about it's origins that I.

What say you?

Cool - Any chance for more shots of that Klingon D-7? I'm finishing up my Captain Cardboard D-7 & Could really use a couple close ups of the top & back of the impulse deck.

Bruising is burst blood vessels, isn't it? Leather can't bruise because it's dead. Sweat stains?

No, it still bruises. Weird, huh? My son dropped one of mine onto concrete and believe me, there was a dark bruise on it immediately. It's not the same tupe of physical bruise you or I would get but it is the same principle.

I don't have any better still shots, but will have high resolution video up in the next few days - that might be more helpful...
