OT forum opt out feature

Would it be possible to add a feature in the userCP whereby members who do not wish to view the OT forum can opt out of viewing it ?

We are able to remove someone's ability to view the OT forum, but as you have mentioned it's not a user selectable item. If the member doesn't click on the OT forum link, the most they will ever "see" is the title of the most recent thread. Is seeing that thread title the problem?

I am taking your question seriously, just want to be clear about what you are asking. :)

Yes the thread title seems to be an issue.
Subjects that some people don't want to read about.
E.G the thread regarding police corruption currently in the OT area, this is the most recent example but i've certainly seen others where people say they wish there was no OT forum.
Perhaps if you could place a sticky at the top of the OT telling people to PM a staff member to opt out of viewing the OT would be helpful if it's not possible to ad an opt out onto the userCP ?

Or we could return the OT forum to a previous state, in that the OT threads should at least be prop related.

How about self-control in the subject of your posts? Is that too much to ask as well.

Do we really need to hear about people's personal problems. Frankly with some of the personalites, you're a fool to spill your guts here.

Again it comes back to why you are at the RPF. For props or a cheap version of therapy.

I normally use the New Posts button to see what's new on the boards. I almost never exclusively hit each particular category, so I can see where the value of a non-OT option would be helpful.
No, I don't have to read the posts. I've never been offended by a title of a thread. Fooled by them, yes. Offended, no. Usually an offensive thread doen not start out as one, it just becomes one due to the subject matter. I usually place mental bets on new OT threads wondering how many pages it can go before someone says something that garners a ticked-off response.
Of course, there are a lot of threads that just shouldn't exist. They are there simply to incite.
