OT C3PO belly pistons. What are they?

It was only used in Ep 4.
Where did you get this shot? I though I had every 3PO suit pic.

Actually, that part is seen throughout every OT film, Including ESB and RotJ. The sad part is, the only OT wires that seemed to ever be displayed in public were the RotJ wires, which are not the greatest (Painted on 'wires' and a completely different look than the other films). The shot I posted was from the RotJ wires.

On thing I have discovered, is some the BEST reference photos for star wars costumes and props can be found on... Flickr!

Ive found some stunning pictures that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. That picture above for example, I got form this shot:

Which is from the 3PO display at the Smithsonian.

For ANH style wires, There aren't many nice pictures.. I did happen to stumble upon a ANH life-size cardboard cutout, and it has been a great reference tool! Perhaps you can find one on ebay.

For ANH, there were cables that ran over the belly wires (our term for the mass of wires around his...belly) and connected down through the trunks and held up the legs (or was it the trunks?...I can't remember...) This detail slid over those cables as added detail. They were dropped for ESB, but the detail did show up on some later incarnations of the belly wires, simply as detail. When I remade the midriff for the prequels, I did not use them.

This is great stuff! Thank you for sharing!

I'm working on getting one right now.
If I get the part I will publicly post full dimensions and tell you what it is.

I completely understand your predicament. I thought it might have been that kind of situation.. It would be fantastic if you could share your findings with us when you receive the part.

I thought the eye ieces were machined weights for a turntable? I also always thought the pulleys on the back of the head and stomach were actual pulleys from something that had maybe been cut in half.
It's actually a relief to hear they are made and not found so I can stop looking!
Thanks for the info Don!

kurtboy...I have nothing to add...except that your avatar freaks me out!!!! :lol

As I noted in another thread, my machine shop is looking for work, so if folks can come up with blueprints, we can machine the various parts in brass. I am getting a quote on the curvy arm pistons for someone right now.

They can also be polished up to a very bright finish for some extra $$$ as well.

E-mail me at sdstudios@aol.com with blueprints (or at least GOOD sketches) and I can get you price quotes.

Thanks guys!

I know of at least one found part on C-3PO.
The cone shaped piece with the hole in the center on his chest is a found part that also appears on the Imperial torture droid.
I know what it is, but I'm not ready to discuss it at this time. I know of at least one found part on C-3PO. Nope, not it.
I'm still working on it. Hopefully I'll have news soon.

I'm not sure if those belly pistons are found parts or not, but they show up on the dashboard of Luke's landspeeder too. You can also see a few other C-3PO leftovers on there (plus a bunch of other found parts commonly seen on ANH/ESB props).
