Ive been wondering this a while now. However none of the metal parts on 3PO have really been identified. We believe most of them were machined.

This however does look to me like a found part... Perhaps someone here could shed some light, Here is a high res shot of one:

Technically true, but some of the machined parts were made for real world applications and not specifically for the droid.

I know of at least one found part on C-3PO.
The cone shaped piece with the hole in the center on his chest is a found part that also appears on the Imperial torture droid.
I know what it is, but I'm not ready to discuss it at this time.

Ah yes the ol' cone knob I forgot about that one LOL!

These kind of posts annoy me to no end... What could you possibly lose by telling us what that part is from? The origin of that part has been discussed many times in the past among builders without an answer..

I see the "I know, but I wont tell" thing way too much, and I just don't understand it, is there a special feeling to be had from keeping information like this from people? Especially a part like that, its so trivial, and such a small part of a huge object.

I'm not trying to offend you Chris. I'm a fan of you, your research and your website. But I just don't see what you are adding to this thread with "You are technically wrong, but I wont tell you why"

Marcus, I got your PM. Ill try and respond to it tomorrow, I'm just leaving work and wont be able to this evening.

:unsure

Can you whisper it in my ear, Chris? I promise I won't tell...I can tell you a secret if you'd like.

I can tell you one thing...I have seen the original drawings for that part in the archives for the machinists to replicate it. Now perhaps they found one and needed to duplicate it, or it was an original part...but I know what I saw.

That is an outstanding picture of a part I've been loking for.

It was only used in Ep 4.

Where did you get this shot? I though I had every 3PO suit pic.

Didn't even realize that C-3PO had pistons on his stomach... always thought it was just wires. Learn something new everyday.

I know what they were used for...but I'm not ready to tell just yet.

Okay, I'm ready now...

For ANH, there were cables that ran over the belly wires (our term for the mass of wires around his...belly) and connected down through the trunks and held up the legs (or was it the trunks?...I can't remember...) This detail slid over those cables as added detail. They were dropped for ESB, but the detail did show up on some later incarnations of the belly wires, simply as detail. When I remade the midriff for the prequels, I did not use them.

Sorry, I know what you mean. I almost didn't post at all, but I don't like to see research stopped just because someone said stuff was custom/machined. No offense Don - I just knew for certain in this case. No doubt LFL does have blueprints for this part. It does make sense.

In this case I thought I was adding info by revealing that there are some found parts on C-3PO.

What would I lose if I said right now?
Simple answer - the part itself.
I'm working on getting one right now.
If I get the part I will publicly post full dimensions and tell you what it is.

So is it any better if I promise to tell within a few weeks?

I have a bartlet suite and was looking for this part anyway to find out what this was so i can add it to my suite? that is

The cone shaped piece with the hole in the center

Perhaps you misunderstood my post...to be clear, I've seen drawings for EVERY part on C-3PO. Again, perhaps they're replicating...
