Original Tie Pilot Helmet Roll Call

All the hero Tie's are accounted for. The one above is in the archives but it's been painted over with black paint. Not sure why maybe for use in ROTJ?

So does that mean theres only 3 out in the wild?

I had heard all the ROTJ footage was re-used ANH footage..

Now how many chestboxes and armor sets were made? where are they? ha! Maybe thats another thread..

The scenes with them running in the hallways yes, but I think they filmed some shots with them lined up for the emperor's arrival scene.

UPDATE:

So if the grey tube hero tie from ANH was repainted black and still owned by LFL (which is what seems to have happened:



14 helmets made originally

12 delivered to production company (from Starwars helmets .com: " Of the 14 made for the movie it seems that the studio were only invoiced for 12 leaving 2 over for Ainsworth and John Mollo. "

2 converted into At-At helmets

10 original helmets known :

1-silver trident hero
2-teardrop hero
3-LFL tour helmet
4-Green lenses
5-Anson (SW helmets ruler measurements pics)
6-Compad back
7-unfinished (no lenses)
8-glossy SW helmets ( this is the one with the 3D view on star wars helmets)
9-Silver tube hero now black at LFL
10-Propstore auction
11-Andrew Ainswoth
12-John Mollo


So if that's accurate, that accounts for all of them.

Grunberg has one (of course he does) in his insane collection. So:

I don’t think this one was accounted for in my list: the helmet made by LFL and used by Don Post as refrence

Not really an original since it was a prototype made by ILM for Don Post (with a Stormtrooper SE faceplate).

After some more research I’ve been able to fine tune the list a bit. Some of the helmets were accounted for twice, and one not at all:
