hey guys.. loooong time no see lol i wanted to post my latest work.. i was able to add the original broad sword casting to my collection and made a 1:1 of it . so i have originals of just about every hero sword used in the films and the show.. but this one was super difficult. the guard is huge, and super thin. so i had to think waaaay out side the box.. so i made a cast of the guard and pommel and did them in resin. i sent the guard off to the legendary weapons master Jose De Braga and was able to retool the details to its original state. (if you don’t know who Jose is, he hand made the macleod sword for the h3, and made the hero masamune and dark magic)
the big issue was the casting, what materials and how to actually make the castings with all details intact.. so did some wax casts and did a few in aluminum, a few in bronze and the bronze cane out sexy but super heavy, the aluminum didn’t cast very well.. it cooled way to fast causing way to many bubbles and other issues.
so i did research and found german silver, suuuper strong, lightweight and easy to work with.. also found that, while in wax, cutting the guard into 3 parts worked really well, 2 end guards and the main center part.. ultimately it came out really really well. did the handle in wood and hand stitched leather, the blade is t10 carbon steel, the pommel is screwed into place, not peened,
weathered the guard and there it was
