Orb

Has anyone seen a replica of the Orb from Briscoe County Jr. I think it would be a cool prop. I liked the idea of a sci fi western; shame they never got to finish this one.

I picked up three rods from Hydin on one of his recent runs, I picked up a couple sets of LED bundles at target at christmas but that's as far as I've gotten. I was contemplating doing an orb with a pair of rods extended at varying lengths, but I need to do a lot of planning and research to get the idea on paper and then on the bench.

I don't have exact measurements from research, I have the reproductions that Hydin made, He may be able to offer some more information but I can measure the reproductions he made if you'd like. I'm at work so I can't do it today but I'll try to remember to get back to this thread soon.

Thanks! :cool

The commentary on the first episode on the DVD mentions there were 2 orbs made. One was made of brass and weighed "about 80 pounds", and one was painted foam. That's most easily seen in the shots where it starts to float down the river :)

I ended up with an endcap cast off the screen used orb, but I don't know exactly what the length is on the rods, nor do I have any idea what the diameter of the orb is. It's pretty friggin huge though.

If I can find my dvds, I will check to see if the orb scholars notebooks has some measurement in there that might help out.

Maybe making a replica of the damaged one would be the way to go. I believe disc 3 of the series is where Bly gets his hands it and tries to activate it causing it to explode. I am going to try for some screen caps tomorrow. I will post them up.

Wow, good call... the Orb is really cool!

Brisco County Jr. was a great show. :):thumbsup

Would you attempt to make them all rods, or just endcaps?

I was thinking of going withthe damaged version. I think there were only 3 moving rods on the working model and only 1 on the damaged version.
